IKE HOPEFUL ON OUTLOOK IN KOREA:
NEW YORK – General Eisenhower returns to the U.S. from his historic mission to Korea. As advisers look on, the President-elect promises a positive program, tells of hope for a peace with honor.

VIOLENCE FLARES IN NORTH AFRICA:
MOROCCO – Arab mobs riot, tension flaring into violence after the assassination of a nationalist labor leader. French troops and police stop the violence, and seize ringleaders, but at least fifty-seven have died in the outbreaks.

AMERICA’S HERITAGE ENSHRINED:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new national shrine, planned to endure war and the ravages of time, receives the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

BLACK MARKET:
KOREA – In Seoul, unusual films show a black market in operation. G.I. uniforms are dyed, altered in appearance, and sold. Black marketers dodge, but the camera gets the story.

STEEL MILL:
PENNSYLVANIA – Operations are begun with dedication ceremonies at the $450 million Fairless Steel Works – a new addition to the productive might of the free world.

FINGER-TIP FANTASIES:
SPAIN – Shadow artists create drama and comedy out of the images of their silhouetted hands. A wistful lover – a burlesque bull-fight, magically created by a pair of hands, with magic-finger-tips.

IKE AND MAC CONFER ON KOREAN SOLUTION:
NEW YORK – President-elect Eisenhower confers with General MacArthur on the details of Mac’s proposed solution to the problem of Korean peace. Newsmen throng the sidewalks outside John Foster Dulles’ home, scene of the meeting

NATO PLANNING SESSION OPENS:
PARIS – Foreign Ministers and defense leaders of the NATO nations meet to review progress and financing the defense organization for the coming year.

PAGEANT OF PROGRESS:
VENEZUELA – The nation reviews past progress and looks to future gains in a gala exposition at Caracas. New housing projects and public works are part of a $300 million annual development program.

BODY ARMOR SHOWN:
U.S.A. – The Quartermaster Corps displays new light-weight body armor for the infantry. Similar to protective garb now worn by Marines in Korean combat, it’s expected to save countless lives.

ART WORKS SHOWN:
ITALY – On display are new creations by Italy’s craftsmen – glittering engraved glassware, intricate laces, brilliantly colored mosaics and pottery.

TRUMAN MAKES AIR AWARDS:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – At the annual meeting of the Aero Club, President Truman stresses the need for continued military build-up, presents awards for contributions to aviation.

CLOTHES FOR KOREA:
NEW YORK – A shipment of clothing, food, and medicines for Korea receives Cardinal Spellman’s blessing, just before the prelate leaves for the fighting front, where he’ll conduct Christmas Mass.

SEASON’S GREETINGS IN MANY TONGUES:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – International Christmas greetings from the children of the world’s embassies in our nation’s capital. Colorfully attired in their national costumes, these youngsters wish America a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

WORST DISASTER IN AIR HISTORY
WASHINGTON – Eighty-six die, as an Air Force transport crashes on take-off. It’s the worst disaster in the history of aviation – and the tenth in a series of crashes in the Pacific Northwest since November.

POW’S RIOT ON PRISON ISLAND
KOREA – Die-hard Communists imprisoned on Ponggam Island riot – charge the fence, and force UN guards to fire. Eighty-seven are killed, many wounded before the disorder is quelled. The latest Red propaganda blow at the U.S.

ITALY FLOODS
ITALY – Flash floods of three swollen rivers inundate the area south of Rome. Two towns are almost completely submerged. Damages mount into hundreds of millions of lira.

STARS LEAVE FOR OVERSEAS
HOLLYWOOD – Sixty five top screen stars and musicians leave for isolated service outposts in Greenland, Alaska, the Caribbean and Korea, to bring a touch of home and holiday cheer to G.I.’s.

SPORTS

LIONS-RAM FOOTBALL:
DETROIT – Playoffs for the National Conference championship match Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Ram in fog-shrouded Briggs Stadium. Highlights of the thrill packed game, as the Lions take it, 31-21.

MANHATTAN-FURMAN BASKETBALL:
NEW YORK – A thriller right down to the final second. Furman loses with the game-winning tally in the air just a second too late. A tough one to lose.

15 PERISH ON PILGRIM SHIP

LEBANON:
Tragedy strikes when a French vessel, carrying pilgrims to the Holy Land for Christmas, goes aground. High winds and breaking seas frustrate rescue attempts for two days. Fifteen perish in the waves before survivors can be brought ashore.

GLOODS AND SNOW STRIKE EUROPE:
Early snows blitz Dutch traffic. In France, the Loire and Garonne rivers overflow, inundating thousands of acres. Thousands are homeless – damage runs into millions.

IKE’S XMAS:
NEW YORK – A Christmas visit with our next President and his family. Ike and Mamie look on as their young grandchildren frolic under the Yule tree – and young David finds out about mistletoe.

QUAD VETS HOME:
SAN FRANCISCO - Home for Christmas from Korea are the A-B-C-D quads, Anthony, Bernard, Carl, and Donald Perricone – combat veterans and the only living male quadruplets in the world.

CARDINAL SPELLMAN IN KOREA:
KOREA – Cardinal Spellman visits Korea during the holiday season. Talking with wounded G.I.’s, he brings a message of cheer and solace. Also in Korea, a plane-load of Hollywood stars, to entertain our front-line fighting men.

DETROIT LIONS WIN PRO GRIDIRON TITLE:
CLEVELAND – The Lions win their first National Football League title in 17 years, defeating the Browns 17-7.
