TOKYO – Death by hanging is the verdict for Hideki Tojo Nippon war leader, and six other Jap military chiefs. Dramatic scenes are shown of the International Military Tribunal, when Tojo and his accomplices are sentenced for atrocities in World War II.

STRIKE TIES UP N.Y. PORT
NEW YORK – A wildcat strike by longshoremen, spreading to other East Coast ports, ties up New York and cripples our Marshall Plan aid to Europe. Passengers arriving on liners are forced to carry their own luggage ashore.

CANADA – A famed 20-year reign nears an end! Prime Minister MacKenzie King, the man who for nearly three decades has been dominant in Dominion politics, steps down. Newsreel clips show his log and justly famous career.

TRUMAN ON FLORIDA VACATION
KEY WEST – Resting after his strenuous campaign for re-election, Pres. Truman enjoys a Florida vacation. Among his visitors is Vice-Pres. Elect Alben Barkley, and American Legion officials who present Mr. Truman with a medal.

ARMY OVERTAKES PENN
PHILADELPHIA – The Quakers and the Cadets engage in one of the season’s most exciting games at Franklin Field, and Army wins it with a late drive which beats the clock by a scant 30 seconds, and Penn by six points, for a final score of 26-20. Almost the year’s upset!

NOTRE DAME TOPS N’WESTERN
SOUTH BEND – It’s a thriller-diller as the Fighting Irish barely avoid disaster, coming from behind in the last period to subdue the Northwestern Wildcats, 12-7. 60,000 see Murakowski intercept an Irish pass and race 92 yards to score.

NAVY SINKS CRUISER “PENSACOLA”
Off Coast of Washington – The cruiser “Pensacola,” veteran of World War II ad survivor of the Bikini atom blasts, goes to the bottom after a spectacular seven-hour pounding by guns and bombs of our fleet. Radioactive and unfit for further service, a gallant ship goes down.

BRITISH HAIL NEW PRINCE
LONDON – Huge throngs outside Buckingham Palace cheer out the news – a son is born to Elizabeth and Philip. Dramatic scenes of the event as the gala news is announced and all the Empire hails the baby who may some day be King of England.

MRS. FDR GETS OXFORD DEGREE
ENGLAND – In London for the unveiling of a memorial to her late husband, Mrs. Roosevelt receives an honorary law degree at the Sheldonian Theatre. Winston Churchill attends, as does U.S. Ambassador Douglas.

TRUMAN MEETS THE PRESS
KEY WEST – For the first time since his “miracle” re-election, Pres. Truman holds a press conference, at his vacation headquarters. The President, whose family joins him, appears rested and relaxed.

CANADA’S NEW PRIME MINISTER
OTTAWA, ONT. – The Rt. Hon. Louis Saint Laurent, successor to Prime Minister MacKenzie King, is sworn I by Gov. Gen. Viscount Alexander during historic ceremonies at Government House. High-ranking Dominion officials attend the installation.

WESTERN-STYLE BABY CONTEST
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Parading in front of an old-west Prairie Schooner, two-year olds vie for the Nevada city’s beauty title, junior grade. A happy King steals a kiss from the Queen, who bursts into tears.

ALABAMA UPSETS GEORGIA TECH
ATLANTA – The victory tide again turns against the Yellowjackets. Last week Tennessee beat them; this week it’s the Crimson Tide of Alabama. A fumble and a pass interception turn the tide as ‘Bama registers a thrilling upset, 14-12.

WASHINGTON – Back from his Florida vacation, Pres. Truman holds an important conference with State Secretary Marshall and other high officials on the international situation. America policy regarding Berlin and the explosive China crisis are of vital concern.

NAVY TESTS TWIN JET FIGHTER
PATUXENT, MD. – The Chance Vought XF7U, odd-looking jet fighter plane, goes aloft for spectacular test flights. Swept-back wings and absence of conventional fuselage give the speedy craft a weird appearance, on the ground and in flight.

MIDWEST HIT BY BLIZZARD
PLAINS STATES – Winter’s first blizzard cripples many Western states, paralyzing transportation and marooning hundreds. Thirteen are known dead. While in the East, it’s “Spring” again (temporarily) with the thermometer hitting the 70’s.

FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS
HARVARD BEATS YALE, 20-7
CAMBRIDGE – Coming from behind with two touchdowns in the final period, the Catab gridders storm to a 20-7 victory over Yale in the 65th edition of their famed grid rivalry before a jammed stadium.

S.M.U. DEFEATS BAYLOR, 13-6
DALLAS – The Southern Methodist Mustangs beat Baylor with an ace and win a Cotton Bowl bid on a 13-6 decision. Kyle Rote is the ace in the hole that licks the Bears, scoring on two thrilling touchdown romps.

NORTH CAROLINA TOPS DUKE
CHAPEL HILL – Sparked by Charlie Justice, the Tarheels subdue the Blue Devils, 20-0, in a colorful gridiron clash. Justice scores once on a 43-yard run, and passes to Weiner for a second touchdown.

MICHIGAN STOPS OHIO STATE
COLUMBUS – The Wolverines fight off a determined Buckeye team, absorb an early 3-0 deficit and then go on to score twice through the air, to close the books o a second straight unbeaten season, 13-3.

SALT HARVEST FROM THE SEA
PUERTO RICO – First pictures of an amazing harvest. You’ll think it’s a “tropical ice field,” but no, it’s salt – tons of it – evaporating in the sun. Sea-water is allowed to flow into huge pools; sun and evaporation do the rest.

WRIST CAMERA DEMONSTRATED
GERMANY – No larger than a wrist-watch, a novel camera makes its debut. Camera fiends will clamor for this amazing instrument that takes eight snapshots, and all automatic. Thirty negatives cover the space of a postage stamp.

WORLD’S SMALLEST PLANE
SAN DIEGO – The “Wee Bee,” smallest piloted airplane in the world, takes off for test flights. Weighing only 170 pounds, the craft’s pilot lies prone during flight and operates the controls with his hands. It really flies, too.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
NEW YORK – Pretty June Fulton, South Africa beauty who is going to Hollywood and a movie career, arrives by plane with two lion cubs. Beauty and the beasts visit the Columbia U. football field, where the “lion” mascot is surprised.

SPECTACULAR ICE REVUE
INDIANAPOLIS – Flashing blades, glittering spectacles hilarious comedy – and the one and only Sonja Henie, queen of the ice. Highlights of Sonja’s colorful Hollywood Ice Revue. Soon you’ll see her in the “Countess of Monte Cristo.”

NAVY BATTLES ARMY TO 21-21 TIE
PHILADELPHIA – The grid season’s greatest spectacle, and a surprise climax. Navy ties Army! Pres. Truman and over 102,000 other football fans at Municipal Stadium look o in amazement as a Midshipmen eleven which had gone victory-less throughout the season, matches touchdown for touchdown with the Cadets who had gone defeat-less. Bill Hawkins and Pete Williams star for the Middies, who perform miracles I a savagely-fought clash that leaves the spectators limp with excitement.

PREVIEW FOR SANTA CLAUS
NEW YORK – Countless thousands, old and young alike, thrill to parade of helium-filled balloons depicting storybook characters, as Americans count the number of shopping days to Christmas.

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Nick himself makes the pre-Xmas spirit official by appearing in Philadelphia, during traditional parade and festivities.

HOLLYWOOD – Down “Santa Claus Lane” in a colorful parade come a galaxy of film stars, fala floats and pretty lassies stepping high – William Bedix, Sabu, Leo Carillo, Bob Hope and many others.

GEORGIA TOPS GEORGIA TECH
ATHENS – In a Southeastern Conference battle, the Georgia Bulldogs pound the Tech Yellow Jackets, 21-13, in convincing fashion. It makes eight straight for Georgia and puts them on top for a bid to one of the Bowl games.

FATHER FLANAGAN HONORED
OMAHA – A statue of Father Flanagan, founder of Boys’ Town and first recipient of the Variety Clubs Humanitarian Award, is unveiled at the famous institution – the gift of the Variety Clubs.

SUCHOW FALLS TO COMMUNISTS AS MME. CHIANG SEEKS U.S. AID
CHINA – Almost a million men are locked in battle for Suchow, as the Nationalist troops fight a losing contest for the city less than 180 miles from Nankig, the capital. Meanwhile, Madame Chiang arrives in the U.S. to make a last-minute appeal for help and is received by Mrs. George Marshall.

LONDON – Not even the fog can dim the glimmer of “Command Performance,” with British and American movie stars being greeted by Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret and other members of the royal family.

LOS ANGELES – Donald O’Connor has a date with history when he crowns “Helen of Troy.” Donald presides at a U.S.C. beauty contest, where a pretty winner is Charlene Hardey.

“MISS ALASKA” IN HOLLYWOOD
LOS ANGELES – Picked by airline pilots as the prettiest Eskimo girl in Alaska, Quianna arrives by plane for her debut in U-I’s forthcoming production, “Arctic Man Hunt.”

NEW PROP SLOWS AIRPLANE
CALDWELL, N.J. – A new-type propeller that can be reversed in flight, to reduce the time of descent of multi-engine aircraft, is demonstrated. The reversible-pitch prop also shortens the landing run and makes for safer operation.

THE “SQUIRREL CAGE” JEEP
QUANTICO, VA. – The Marine Corps tries out a new use for the already versatile Jeep. The “Squirrel Cage” is a continuous track-laying mat, revolving around the jeep in a welded steel frame. The jeep then gets about anywhere!

THE WORLD OF SPORTS
SKIERS GET “JUMP” ON SEASON
CYPRESS GARDENS – Dick Pope and his water-ski troupe go through their paces behind a speedboat, and watch out for thrills. Speed and excitement ride the waves, with some tricky stuff over the jumps.

PENN STATE TOPS WASH. STATE
TACOMA – Forced to fight bitterly for every yard, the Nittany Lions defeat an inspired Wash. State team, 7-0, before 18,000 fans. Larry Cooney finally tallies, after two previous touchdowns are called back due to penalties.

WASHINGTON – Evidence found on the Maryland farm of Whittaker Chambers, forging a new link in the chain of spy data, is examined by Congressman Nixon and Chief Investigator Stribling of the House Un-American Activities Committee. The film may answer a lot of questions the country is asking.

HOFFMAN OFF FOR CHINA VISIT
NEW YORK – ECA Administrator Paul Hoffman takes off on a flying visit to China and Korea. Mr. Hoffman will go to England prior to inspecting China’s plight at first hand and making recommendations for possible U.S. aid.

FIRST LADY OF THE ARMY
WASHINGTON – Col. Mary Hallaren takes the oath of office, in the presence of Gen. Bradley, as the first woman officer of the Regular Army except for those in the Medical Dept. She will direct the WAC’s.

NEW ORLEANS TRADE MART
NEW ORLEANS – The dedication of the impressive new Trade Mart by city and state officials dramatizes New Orleans’ amazing growth as trade and shipping center rivaling the country’s other great ports.

SANTA RIDES INTO HOLLAND
HOLLAND – Arriving to help the Dutch celebrate the St. Nicholas Feast Day, Santa runs into red-tape at the border and is forced to dismount by customs guards. But all goes well and Santa gets underway again.

WRESTLING FREE-FOR-ALL
MONTREAL – Six of Canada’s top wrestling champs engage in an Australian Tag Match, so called because no holds are barred. The match debut features plenty of mayhem and ends in a near riot.

U.S.C. BATTLES ‘IRISH’ TO DRAW
LOS ANGELES – Unbeaten Notre Dame has to stage a last-minute come-back to hold the mighty Trojans to a 14-14 tie. More than 100,000 fans see the near upset, with the Irish drawing even at the close.

SCHOOL GRIDDERS I 6-6 TIE
PHILADELPHIA – Frankfort and Southeast Catholic battle to a 6-6 deadlock in a bruising clash for the city high-school football championship, before 45,000 fans at Franklin Field.

CRISIS IN THE FAR EAST
While Nationalist troops fight to escape encirclement on the road to Nanking, U.S. Marines go ashore to bolster our garrison at Tsingtao. Families of American G.I.’s and businessmen sail from Korea, as tension rises in the Far East. The first American evacuees arrive in Seattle and San Francisco. Some of the youngsters are seeing America for the first time.

WIDEN SPY CASE PROBE
WASHINGTON – Should the U.S. public be let in on the secrets of the stolen micro-films? Former Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles, appearing before Un-American Activities Committee, says the papers should be barred, while Congressman Mundt calls for a full public hearing on the case.

FASHIONS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
NEW YORK – Glamorous Holiday styles, designed by Madame Elanora Garnett, famed international designer, are displayed by pretty models, at a pre-Xmas showing. The accent is on slimness and curves in alluring proportions.

CATTY STYLE SHOW HELD
BROOKLYN – The fashion show is the Cat’s meow! Highlight of the 7th annual Cat Show, which features Persians, Siamese and some just plain tabby – is a style parade of nattily-dressed mouser-posers. Ad a special salute by “Santa Claws.”

HOLLAND – The “Hangmen of Amersfoort,” Nazi criminals who put scores to death I infamous concentration camp, go on trial before a Dutch tribunal. Once vaunted supermen cringe as justice holds their fate in the balance.

CUBA PRESIDENT IN U.S.
WASHINGTON – Cuba’s new President, Carlos Prio, arrives by plane for a five-day visit. Pres. Truman, who invited him, is on hand to greet him at National Airport as Senor Prio steps off the “Independence.”

INCIDENT ON THE NEGEB DESERT
PALESTINE – Medical supplies destined for Egyptian troops trapped in the Faludja pocket along the Negeb front are held up by Israeli demands when contraband war materials are discovered on board the trucks of the convoy. Meanwhile, Pres. Chaim Weizman visits Jerusalem for the first time.

NOVEL HELICOPTER TESTED
WINDSOR LOCKS, CONN. – The Kaman helicopter, safer and easier to fly than present models, performs some amazing stunts during its debut. Test Pilot Murray puts the craft through a series of spectacular maneuvers.

LEGION CHIEF COMES HOME
BEAUMONT, TEXAS – It’s a royal homecoming for Perry Brown, newly-elected Commander of the American Legion. Thousands, including Roy Rogers, greet the popular Texan as he arrives home for a gala welcoming parade.

ALUMINUM SHOES NEW FAD
AUSTRIA – The shortage of leather makes for remarkable results. Aluminum is used by ingenious craftsmen. The entire process from pouring the molds to the finished product is shown in these interesting films.

SANTA HOLDS OPEN HOUSE
SAVAGE, MD. – Special trains bring thousands of thrilled youngsters to “Santa Claus Village,” special guests of Harry Heim, manufacturer of Xmas decorations. The kids, welcomed by Gov. Lane, see the sights and have plenty to eat.

PRO FOOTBALL THRILLER!
BALTIMORE – Buffalo Bills versus Baltimore Colts. 28,000 grid fans see the Bills, sparked by George Ratterman, come from behind to score three touchdowns in the final quarter. The 28-17 victory gives the Buffalo gridders the All-American Conference eastern title.

THOUSANDS LOST OFF CHINA; REFUGEE SHIP STRIKES MINE
CHINA – Only the superstructure of the ill-fated “Kiangya” remains above water, following mine blast that sank ship carrying 4,000 refugees from Woosung. Hope dwindles for countless thousands trapped below decks. Gruesome task of bringing bodies ashore is shown.

UNITED NATIONS ADJOURNS
PARIS – A stormy session of the General Assembly comes to an end, with world peace still in the balance. Assembly President Evatt of Australia, bidding delegates farewell, holds out hope for the future.

ISRAEL PRISONERS RETURNED
PALESTINE – The happier side of an unhappy war in the Holy Land. Jewish prisoners of the Arabs, swapped in an exchange, are turned over to Israeli authorities. Red Cross officials supervise the humanitarian transfer.

“SINBAD” GETS A BATH
CHICAGO – “Sinbad”, baby gorilla at the Lincoln Park Zoo, wrinklee his black nose at the fuss, including a bath, a rub-down and a medical check-up. Then he relaxes and enjoys his lunch.

SMALL FRY SLUG-FEST
NEW YORK – Scrappy pugilists of the Madison Square Boys Club swing into action. They’re pin-weights but they make up for poundage in the pounding they give each other. One will need two front teeth for Christmas.

HOLIDAY GREETINGS
WASHINGTON – Holiday cheer from many lands and in many tongues. Children of foreign diplomats wish you the season’s best, during a party at the embassy.
NEW YORK – Children from the Foundling some are guests of Cardinal Spellman at a Christmas Party at swank hotel. It’s a big spot I their lives.
