LONDON – In a gay and regal ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Princess Elizabeth’s baby, “Bonnie Prince Charlie” is christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. King George, Prince Philip, and other members of the royal family attend the christening.

“KITTY HAWK” ENSHRINED
WASHINGTON – The Wright Brothers’ famed plane, returned from England, is hoisted to a place of honor in the Smithsonian Institution. At Kitty Hawk, N.C., where first flight was made, military aircraft fly over memorial in anniversary salute.

33 RESCUED IN PACIFIC
IN THE PACIFIC – First films of the rescue of 33 airmen by the carrier Rendova. These official Navy films show the rescue of the men, who spent days in two rafts after their C-54 plane was forced down at sea.

HONOR SUPERSONIC FLIERS
WASHINGTON – Pres. Truman presents the Collier Trophy to the men responsible for rocket craft which first pierced the sonic barrier. Lawrence Bell, builder of the X-1, and Captain Yeager, pilot, are honored.

BLIZZARD CRIPPLES EAST
New York and surrounding areas are buried under 20 inches of snow, the third worst storm in history, and rivaling the 1947 blizzard. Thousands battle the deep fall to clear streets and keep transportation moving.

CLEVELAND – Rolling to seven touchdowns with practiced ease, the Cleveland Browns wallop the underdog Buffalo Bills, in the play-off for the All America Conference title.

PHILADELPHIA – Playing in a snowstorm, the Phila. Eagles win the Nat’l League title by defeating the favored Chicago Cardinals Van Buren crashes over for a fourth-quarter touchdown.

TOKYO – Hideki Tojo, Jap war leader, and six other top war criminals whose brutal plots brought death to millions in the Pacific, pay the final penalty on the gallows. Like Nazi murderers before them, these seven men die by the hangman’s noose.

G.I.s IN GERMANY PLAY SANTA
GERMANY – American soldiers are hosts to thousands of happy youngsters, at special Christmas parties, where there are presents for all and heaping plates of food. The spirit of giving – and forgiving!

WAR BRIDES BEAT DEADLIE
NEW YORK – Forty-six war brides, among the last who will get free entry to the U.S. under present laws, beat the deadline by a few hours. They arrive by air for a delayed reunion with their soldier-husbands.

NEW GOLD FROM STOLEN COINS
SHANGHAI – Ten thousand tons of coins stolen by the Japs, now returned to China, are melted down and minted into new gold bars to help bolster China’s shaky economy. With the Reds near, China looks to her finances.

QUADS HAVE FIRST COMMUNION
LEITCHFIELD, KY. – The Lashley Quadruplets, now eight, have their first communion, along with fourteen other children of the town. Beulah, Martine, Mildred and John get prayer books and a blessing from Father Berruato.

MARINES WIN GRID TITLE
COLLEGE PARK, MD. – The Quantico Marines, All-Navy Champions, win their 25th straight and the mythical service championship of the U.S., by routing the previously unbeaten 82nd Air-borne Paratrooper team by a lop-sided score, 40-7.

“THE ANGEL” STARTLES SPAIN
BARCELONA – Maurice Tillet, “The Angel” so-called because of his ferocious looks, throws his wrestling rival (and the spectators) into a panic during about I Barcelona. The ugly Maurice makes short work of one Binacchi, and he’ll scare you, too.

FLIERS AWAIT NEW RESCUE ATTEMPT ON GREENLAND ICECAP
GREENLAND – Dramatic, on-the-spot aerial pictures of the crashed planes and gliders o 7,700-foot ice-cap, where thirteen fliers are stranded, six following unsuccessful rescue attempts. Meanwhile, the Carrier “Saipan” steams out of Norfolk under forced draft for further rescue try. Helicopters will be used.

TOPPLE 168-FT. LIGHTHOUSE
HAMPTON BAYS, L.I. – The Shinnecock Light, famed landmark for almost a century, comes to a spectacular end. The tall brick structure is toppled, after engineers had undermined the foundations and set fire to the temporary shoring.

GUNS CUT UP FOR SCRAP
SAN FRANCISCO – The huge 16-in. Coast guns which constituted the backbone of the harbor defenses, are cut up for scrap. Originally made for the “Saratoga,” the guns are obsolete and will be replaced by smaller mobile defenses.

PETRILLO SIGNS DISK PACT
NEW YORK – New phonograph recordings are assured as James C. Petrillo, czar of the musicians, signs a new accord with the manufacturers. Samuel Rosenbaum will serve as welfare fund administrator.

TRUMAN GOES FOR A WALK
INDEPENDENCE – Despite the bitter cold, Pres. Truman takes his customary pre-breakfast hike through town. He meets old friends and exchanges pleasantries along the route, just like old times.

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The 10th annual East-West Swim Forum brings out top notch swimmers and divers for spectacular competition. For the spectators, the highlight of the meet is the highboard diving.

SHANGHAI – Already facing disaster from the communists, Nationalist China faces a grave new economic threat, as swarming thousands storm the banks to convert the depreciated yuan currency back into gold. Several are killed as police battle rioters.

PARIS – The stale-mate over Indonesia poses a grave problem for the United Nations, with the Dutch balking at heeding the UN demands. Delegates of both nations concerned have a hearing before the Security Council, on the eve of adjournment.

FLAMES GUT MONTREAL STORE
MONTREAL, QUE. – Spectacular scenes of a $100,000 fire that destroys a big department store. Hampered by high winds and near zero temperatures, firemen battle the stubborn blaze for many hours.

BREED NEW STRAIN OF HUSKY
SEATTLE – A new strain of white Siberian huskies, whose blue eyes protect them from snow blindness, are shown. The unusual dogs are ideal for sled work, and equally adaptable as pets in U.S. homes.

DUTCH FEEL SCARS OF WAR
HOLLAND – Three years after the liberation, Holland still feels the sears of war. After 1,800 Dutch kids had been killed playing with live munitions left behind by the Nazis, dramatic steps are taken to halt the needless killings.

BULL PUP FOR LEATHERNECKS
LONG BEACH – Pretty film star Ann Blyth presents an English bull puppy to the Leathernecks at the Marine barracks. The cute pooch takes the place of his name-sake, Brigadier I, whose death saddened the Marines.

SPAIN – A colorful Basque sport is lifting huge stone cylinders, with first prize for the man who lifts it the most times during a strenuous half-hour of competition. The winner is near collapse, and you’ll agree he deserves to be.
