30 DEAD IN RAILROAD DISASTER
LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – Tragic and sensational scenes of the wreckage of a crack N.Y. Central express train, derailed on a bad curve. The locomotive plunged into an embankment, pulling the cars off after it in a maze of twisted metal. In addition to these killed, scores are injured, and local hospitals are jammed with sufferers.

F.D.R. REBUKES G.O.P. ON WAR
WARM SPRINGS, GA. – Pres. Roosevelt tells Young Democrats that the Administration’s “Cool headed” policy on the war is better for the nation than the proposal of certain Republican isolationists.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Thomas E. Dewey, heading the G.O.P. list of 1940 hopefuls, gets a big ovation from 17,000 persons at a huge rally.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Navy Secretary inspects a detachment of 1,100 young recruits at the training school. Since the European war began, 900 men have been graduated from the school each month.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The liner “Washington” reaches port with 881 passengers, most of them fleeing from war-torn Europe. Brig. Gen. Sherman Miles, military attacks in London, returns to be Army Intelligence Chief of Washington.

NAMSOS, NORWAY – Nazi bombing planes make a “bell-hold” of the British debarkation port! The city is turned into a shambles of flames and shell-holes as the natives seek refuge in the forest!

PARIS, FRANCE – Thousands of able-bodied men, called home to help stem the Nazi hordes, leave by the trainload with tearful farewells from wives and sweethearts.

HULL SAYS U.S. IS NOT SECURE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cordell Hull, Secretary of State, warns Americans to re-arm to prepare against the threat of “brute force”! Meanwhile, Gen. John J. Pershing, head of our Army during the World War returns to lend his weight to speeding defense measures.

RAWLEY, CALIF. – Imperial Valley, rich farm area in Southern California, is threatened with a water shortage as a quake shatters the irrigation canal. Wrecked homes are graphic evidence of the tremor, which caused several deaths.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – The ill-fated submarine, reconditioned at a cost of $1,400,000 after sinking during trials last year, is re-commissioned as the U.S.S. Sail-fish. Four survivors of the tragedy will serve aboard the craft again!
