SEATTLE, WASH. – In a move surrounded by secrecy, Uncle Sam sends 775 officers and men of the 75th Coast Artillery (A.A.) on board the Army transport, St. Mihiel, to bolster our outpost forces in strategic Alaska.

MEXICO HAILS NEW PRESIDENT
MEXICO CITY, D.F. – Threats of revolution peter out, and peace reigns, as Gen. Manuel Avila Camacho, with U.S. blessing, becomes the new president to succeed president Cardenas. Colorful scenes mark the inauguration, with Pan-American unity stressed by all.

Henry A. Wallace, Vice-President elect, is Uncle Sam’s special envoy to the ceremony, and receives a hearty greeting from Camacho supporters.

ARMY SPEEDS DRAFTEE TRAINING
FORT ORD, CALIF. – The West Coast’s biggest post takes on a wartime aspect, with 12,500 troops, including new conscript soldiers, beginning training. By 1941, 30,000 men are expected to be under arms here.

BOMBERS RUSHED FOR BRITAIN
SEATTLE, WASH. – Striking mass production scenes at the Boeing plant, where a Flying Fortress is turned out every two days. Twenty of the huge, 22-ton bombers are slated for England and others for the U.S.

DIES DEFENDS “5th COLUMN” EXPOSURES
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Martin Dies, chairman of Congress committee exposing sabotage activities in defense plants, says the work of exposure must go on! However, Attorney General Robert Jackson tells the nation that the F.B.I. and Army and Navy Intelligence Services can attend to Fifth Columnists.

TOPPENISH, WASH. – A terrific gas explosion levels a big downtown building, killing eight persons and injuring 14. Police and other rescue groups search the ruins and bring out victims of the disaster.

BUCHAREST, RUMANIA – Scenes of destruction in the wake of the worst ‘quake in decades to strike the country, razing entire towns and crippling industry. Thousands are killed and countless thousands injured.

BOMBING OF CHUNKING
CHINA – Spectacular scenes of the Chinese city under a terrific bombardment by Japanese planes, which take off from bases to subject the city to a devastating raid. Amazing pictures of air-raid destruction right before your eyes!

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Pres. Roosevelt ends his two-week “defense” tour of Caribbean bases, disembarking at the Navy base here. He faces growing demands at home for a speed-up of U.S. preparedness efforts.
