SLAUGHTER IN SOUTH KORIA:
A bullet-ridden jeep in a South Korean ravine is grim evidence of the ambush that cost the lives of two American soldiers serving with the United Nations command here. At a press conference the U N Information Officer explains the situation to reporters here on the Tenth Anniversary of the signing of the Korean truce.

BELGIAN FARMERS PROTEST TAXES:
Belgian farmers march on the provincial capital of Le Mons in protest against various taxes, principally that on automobile wheels. The demonstration gets out of hand, with rocks and vegetables being hurled at the gendarmes. Automobile tires are burned in smoking protest against the levies.

MISSILES AND SUN-WORSHIPPERS:
The French Island of Levant, long a haunt of sun-worshippers, becomes a space center with a missile launching station installed here. Scientists tracking missile “Berenice” are somewhat distracted by misses who may or may not be named Berenice----but who cares?

SCOUT JAMBOREE OPENS IN GREECE:
The historic plains of Marathon, a Greek battlefield 25 centuries ago, is the scene of the Eleventh Boy Scout World Jamboree. Scouts from 85 nations, 14,000 strong, are on hand for opening ceremonies.

AN INTIMATE GLIMPSE OF AN EMPEROR:
For the first time Emperor Hirohito allows himself to be photographed in pursuit of his favorite hobby – marine biology. With the Empress he searches the seashore for rare specimens.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A WALK???
Ten thousand walkers from all parts of Europe put in four days hiking around Nijmagen, The Netherlands. They walk for sport’s sake and converge on the City for the festival windup.

FISH SWIM INTO FRYING PAN:
Great schools of pilchards swarm ashore in Natal, South Africa, and fishermen have a field day as they catch them by the ton. No one knows just why the fish suddenly come into short.

SCORES OF NATIONS JOIN IN ATOM BAN:
Scores of nations rush to join the Big Three in signing an atom-test ban agreement. The Kremlin is the setting for the historic event as the United States, Britain and the USSR agree to ban all except underground nuclear testing. Dean Rusk signs for the U.S., Andrei Gromyko for the Soviets and Lord Home for the Britain as a jovial Khrushchev looks on with the U N Secretary-General U Thant.

KENNEDY BABY: PRESIDENT STANDS VIGIL AFTER EARLY BIRTH:
The dramatic miracle of birth and fight for life is enacted at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod as Mrs. Jaxqueline Kennedy gives birth to a premature son, the first child born to a President in office in 69 years. Thousands of good wishes and prayers pour in as the President stands vigil at Boston’s Children’s Hospital as Patrick Bouvier Kennedy wages his fight for lifr.

MOVIE GLAMOUR: WEST COAST OPENING AND EASTERN BEAUTIES:
On the West Coast, a premiere of a new comedy: “THE THRILL OF IT ALL” - in New York a bathing beauty contest: two events a continent apart that proves all is still glamour in Hollywood news. The premiere is a glittering, klieg-lighted affair and the contest ---well, it’s brilliantly lit by 13 beauties, one of whom is chosen to be “Miss Premiere” at the opening of “FOR LOVE OR MONEY”.

YESTURDAY’S BIG STORY
DECEMBER 26, 1947 and New York was smothered in 26 inches of snow – the heaviest fall in Weather Bureau history. The storm was knee deep in statistics, too. 99,000,000 (weigh ‘em) tons of snow fell in 16 hours; 30,000 men labored to clear the streets; it was 5 inches more than the famed blizzard of ’88 (and the kids enjoyed every minute of it.)

RUSK TESTIFIES AFTER MISSION TO MOSCOW:
Dean Rusk has busy days on the international front. He meets with Chairman Khrushchev at the Russian leader’s villa on the Black Sea where they hold a series of shirt-sleeve conferences after the signing of the atom-test ban. Then he flies to Bonn where he convinces West German leaders that they should sign the Treaty and not to worry about it meaning recognition for East Germany…… He then flies home to testify before Senate committees in favor of U. S. ratification.

NATION MOUNS KEPAUVER:
Senator Estes Kefauver was catapulted into nation-wide fame through the racket investigations he headed in 1951. His probing of the underworld led the next year to the Democratic convention where he sought the Presidential nomination. He lost out to Adlai Stevenson then and in 1956 was Vice-Presidential nominee. Senator Kefauver had a long and honorable career. His colleagues called him a public servant of the utmost integrity.

NEW MARKS SET AT A A U MEN’S SWIM MEET:
At the National A A U men’ swimming meet in Chicago there’s a 17-year-old whiz who swims away with all honors. Don Schollander, a California high school student wins the 20 meter, free-style with a new record of 1:59. He also wins the 400 and loses the 1500 by three-tenths of a second. In diving from the 10-meter board, Lieutenant Tom Gompf, a fighter pilot, wins the gold medal in some high-flying aerial maneuvers.

EX-DICTATOR DEPORTED:
Marcos Perez Jimnez, who for ten years was Dictator of Venezuela, loses a 4-year fight to stay in the United States and is extradited to his homeland. He had lived in luxury in Miami while Venezuela attempted to bring him home to face charges that he embezzled $13,000,000 when he was forced to flee the country, Now the man whose fortune is estimated at $700,000,000 faces 16 years in prison.

OPPORTIION TO NEHRU MOUNTS:
As India celebrates the 16th year of Independence, Prime Minister – Nehru is facing mounting pressure that he resign. He has held office since India became self-governing but now eight opposition parties are forcing a vote of confidence over the Chinese and economic issues.

ANGLICANS HOLD WORLD CONGRESS:
Representatives of 40,000,000 communicants of the Anglican Church convene in Toronto, Canada. The Archbishop of Canterbury says the first aim of the Anglicans is to seek unity with other Christian faiths.

OUTSIDER BEATS TOP HORSES:
Saratoga, N.Y., celebrates its Centennial with the Running of the Travers, the oldest stake race in the U.S. “Crewman”, 20 to 1 takes the lead at the start and outruns “Never Bend”, “Chateaugay” (Kentucky Derby winner) and “Candy Spots” who copped the Preakness. He took on the best and licked ‘em all.

PROS HOLD DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS:
At Grossinger, New York, the top professional divers compete on the 3 and 5 meter boards and on the 10-meter platform in the first International World Championships for Pros. Most are former Olympic and International stars and they run off thrilling meet.

RESCUE WORKERS IN DRAMATIC RACE:
Near Hazelton, Pa., a tense drama unfolds at the Old Lehigh mine as teams of rescue workers labor around the clock to reach three entombed miners. In a sloping shaft blocked by tons of debris two miners are trapped in one pocket and a third in another part of the shaft. A communication shaft is drilled to the two men and food and tools dropped down. They spend frustrating hours trying to reach the other man. It’s a saga of man’s courageous concern for his fellow-man.

FRENCH ‘CHUTISTS JUMP FOR TITLE:
Parachute jumping in France has taken on the aspects of a national sport. 41 contestants compete in the French Championships – both men and women. A camera follows the jumpers down for an unusual film record.

LUMBERJACKS COMPETE FOR TITLES:
The best men out of the North Woods converge on Hayward, Wisconsin, for the Woodchoppers’ World Series. In sawing and chopping and log-rolling contests they seek coveted titles. There are other awards, too. A deluxe churckwagon waits on the sidelines to reuel the hungry men.

CHIMP STEALS SHOW AT ICE CAPADES:
You can be sure that Fall is in the air when the Ice Capades takes to the road. For the 24th season they have a Czech pair – Otto and Maria Jelinkek as well as an outstanding soloist, Japanese Hisashi Kuckiki. But you know who steals the show? “Spanky” – a chimp who does stunts that would give most humans pause.

BRITAIN'S FIRST ATOM SUB:
Storied Gibraltar is the setting for a new chapter in the annals of the British Fleet. Going to sea for her initial trials is the
"Dreadnaught", Britain's first nuclear submarine. She is named for the first modern battleship in the Royal Navy and is a hunter-killer sub with missiles that automatically home on target.

MOSCOW "hot line" READIED:
The teletype that will connect Washington with Moscow is set up in the Pentagon - a weapon of peace. Later the Russian Ambassador visits President Kennedy to set up a meeting between the President and Soviet Foreign Minister Gromyko.

WEST TAKES LITTLE LEAGUE TITLE:
A team from Granada Hills, California - the lightest Little League playoff team on record - takes the measure of Stratford in the World Series at Williamsport, Pa. It's an extra inning game before the Californians come out on top - 2 to 1.

UP AND UP AND UP HE GOES:
John Pennel becomes the first man to pole vault 17 feet as he soars to 17 Ft. 3/4 inches at Miami. This is the 7th pole vault record he has set since March. Starting at 16' 3", Pennel has inched his way up to the point where he needs a parachute for landing.

OAKLAND RAIDERS SWAMP NEW YORK JETS:
In an American Football League preview, the West Coast team has a 27 point final quarter to down the New Yorkers, 43 to 16. Once they started rolling there was no stopping the Raiders as their passes clicked and they gathered in fumbles.

KHRUSHCHEV AND TITO VISIT EARTHQUAKE AREA:
On a very business-like vacation in Yugoslavia, Chairman Khrushchev tours the earthquake devastated area of Skoplje. Accompanied by President Tito, the Russian leader seems aghast at the shambles of the once proud city. However, an expected promise of Russian aid to rebuild Skoplje never materialized.

TOKYO GETS READY FOR OLYMPICS:
Tokyo's growing pains are being compounded by the forthcoming Olympics. New highways, subways and streets take care of the influx in this fastest-growing city in the world. The Olympic Committees are hard at work preparing for the first games to be held in the Orient.

ART FLOURISHES IN PRISON:
The grim guard towers and the forbidding walls of San Quentin seem to offer barren ground for flourishing artists - but for the 9th year the inmates open their art show to the general public.

FIRST FALL STYLES UNVEILED IN PARIS:
Here is the shape of things to come this Fall. The first major fashion showing in Paris features creations by Pierre Balmain with tweed definitely "in". The soft lights of evening call for ankle length gowns with a few about three inches above the ankles.
