In an atmosphere of profound pride, President Lyndon B. Johnson dedicates the George C. Marshall Research Library at Virginia Military Institute and the unveiling of a remarkable likeness in bronze of the father of the Marshall Plan.

Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and General Omar Bradley were among those who attended the dedication ceremonies.
HOMES IN BOSTON RAZED BY WILD FIRE
Spectacular pictures showing blazes and billowing smoke which, in a few hours destroyed 17 Boston homes and severely damaging 19 more at the city line between Boston and Dorchester. 300 were left homeless. Fortunately no lives were lost. This tragedy was due to old, wooden, firetrap tenements.
AFL - CIO UNION INDUSTRIES SHOW OPENS IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY
Down in the Blue Grass country, the AFL-CIO Union Industries Show of 1964 opens a 6-day run at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, Louisville. IATSE President Richard F. Walsh participates at opening ceremonies of the multi-million dollar exposition.

With a time of crisis in Southeast Asia, the U.S. calls a high-level conference in Hawaii of the nation’s top military and diplomatic minds. The strategy of the conference is to shore-up non-communist governments in former French Indo-China.
CITIZENS OF INDIA BID FAREWELL TO PRIME MINISTER JAWAHARLAL NEHRU PASSING
THRONGS PAY HOMAGE TO NEHRU
A million and a half sorrowing Indians line the streets of New Delhi to bid a tearful farewell to one of the great national heroes Jawaharlal Nehru. His body is borne through the streets on a gun carriage to a funeral tyre on the River Jumna where it is cremated.
NATION PAUSES TO HONOR HEROES AND A FALLEN PRESIDENT
As the nation pauses to pay tribute to its honored war dead, another hero is remembered. Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy and her two children mark the 47th birthday of the martyred President. Three million have filed past the grave site in the six months since his death.
TRAGEDY AT THE INDIANAPOLIS 500
Tragedy takes the wheel at Indianapolis. As the 33 starters end the second lap, Dave MacDonald goes into a spin and hits the outside wall. It starts a chain reaction, and seven cars pile up. MacDonald and Eddie Sachs die, three others are injured, one seriously. A. J. Foyt goes on to win at an average of better than 147 miles an hour; four miles an hour better than last year’s all-time record.

GRADUATION DAY AT MILITARY SERVICE ACADEMIES
It’s the day of the year at West Point, Annapolis, the Air Force and the Coast Guard Academies. It’s Graduation Day and the end of the hard four-year grind. At New London, Connecticut, President Lyndon B. Johnson addresses graduates of the Coast Guard Academy and says that our war potential is far superior to that of Russia.
SENATOR BARRY GOLDWATER TAKES CALIFORNIA PRIMARY
Senator Barry Goldwater takes the important Republican Presidential Primary in California and it is conceded that he has a good chance of winning the nomination on the first convention ballot. However, Governor Nelson Rockefeller says that he is not giving up the fight. In the Democratic race for the Senatorial nomination in California, former Presidential Press Secretary, Pierre Salinger wins his party’s nod.
GLITTERING PREMIERE FOR THE HOLLYWOOD FILM 'THE CHALK GARDEN'
The season’s most glittering movie premiere takes place in Hollywood as the celebrities turn out en masse to see 'The Chalk Garden'. This Ross Hunter production for Universal Pictures promises to be one of the season’s smashes out of Hollywood.
HOUSTON ASTRODOME NEARS COMPLETION
It looks as if they may fire the weatherman in Houston, at least Big League baseball will have no use for him. Nearing completion is a new domed stadium that will enable the Colts to play baseball rain or shine. Who’s going to wash the 5,000 windows in the dome? Why the guy who strikes out with the bases loaded, that’s who!

MOSELLE CANAL WATERWAY LINKS GERMANY AND FRANCE
The fabled Moselle River takes on an added dimension, after six years of work and 200 million dollars, a water way has been completed that links the steel mills of Lorraine with the coal fields of the Ruhr Valley. Making his first public appearance since his illness, President Charles De Gaulle hails it as a milestone in European cooperation.
ENGLISH ROYAL AIR FORCE HAS NEW HELICOPTOR RESCUE TECHNIQUE
The Royal Air Force has developed a new rescue technique to snatch people trapped under the 300-foot cliffs at Ramagate, England. They drop a rescuer and a life-raft and then blow them to the victim with the helicopter downdraft. It makes it easier to save the foolhardy from themselves.

In a setting of lush luxury in Venezuela, the gals give us an insider’s look at the swim caps that will crown beauty on the beach this summer. They are made of rows of petals and such gossamer stuff and they double as swim caps and beach bonnets.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II ATTENDS FLAG RITE ON 38TH BIRTHDAY
In London a spirit of festival prevails as the British honor the official 38th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The highlight of the tribute is the annual Trooping the Color in the Horse Guard Parade. A rite her Majesty attends in the uniform of a Colonel-in-chief. There is a colorful parade of full dressed troops and most bands. The big treat for the crowd came when Queen Elizabeth, after the ceremonies, appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with three-month-old Prince Edward in her arms.
VERRAZANO BRIDGE NEARS COMPLETION IN NEW YORK
As it nears completion, the Verranzano bridge spanning the Narrows at the mouth of the Port of New York again becomes the subject for your newsreel’s daredevil cameraman…And he produces a spine-tingling report by matching the courage of the workers on bare and wind-whipped girders, hundreds of feet above the water.
