NATO NEAR AGREEMENT ON A UNIFIED NUCLEAR FORCE POLICY
The meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Paris has Secretary of State Dean Rusk and Defense Secretary Robert McNamara presenting the United States case for a unified front with a joint nuclear force, something France opposes.

They also confirmed that nuclear demolition bombs have been planted along the East border. This is said to have impressed France and for the first time in months it appears that the Allies are once more Allied.
DUKE OF WINDSOR UNDERGOES ABDOMINAL SURGERY IN U.S.
The Duke of Winsor undergoes an abdominal operation in Houston, Texas, and the 70-year-old former King of England comes through with flying colors as his Duchess stands by.

The Duchess is the American for whom the Duke gave up his throne 38 years ago.
SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY WALKING AGAIN AFTER PLANE CRASH
Fulfilling a promise he made at the time his back was broken in a plane crash, Edward M. Kennedy walks out of New England Baptist Hospital and goes to Florida for Christmas. The Massachusetts Senator spent six months in a specially constructed bed.
AIR FORCE HAS NEW TECHNIQUE FOR RESCUING DOWNED PILOTS
The Air Force reveals a new technique for rescuing pilots in remote areas. A balloon lifts a 500 foot line aloft and a rescue plane snags the cord and reels the downed pilot.
NEARLY 3,000 RUNNERS COMPETE IN CROSS COUNTRY BASH IN BELGIUM
Tourists see some strange sights in Brussels as police from several nations direct traffic. A Canadian Mountie, a girl Bobby from London, and a New York Cop are included. The New Yorker must have thought he was back in the subway rush as 3,000 runner compete in Belgians’ annual cross-country bash.

REDS ALLOW PASSAGE THROUGH BERLIN WALL FOR HOLIDAYS
The Holiday Season begins for West Berliners on the day the Wall of Shame is opened for visits to relatives in East Berlin. They line up before dawn at five checkpoints, anxious to take advantage of every hour that passage to Communist Berlin will be open. It is estimated that more than a million visitors will cross over in a two-week period.
QUEEN MOTHER ATTENDS A FASHION SHOW OF LONDON'S TOP DESIGNERS
Queen Mother Elizabeth attends a fashion show at the Royal Opera House to see fashions offered by London’s top designers. The Queen Mother sees haute couture that is certainly to a Queen’s taste. The fashion news from London proves that life can be beautiful.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: BOWL GAME FOR FIRST TIME IS PLAYED INDOORS

For the first time a Bowl Game is played under cover as Utah meets West Virginia in Convention Hall, Atlantic City. This is where the political conventions are held, minus the turf, and observers say the play is cleaner as Utah overwhelms West Virginia, 32 to 6.

‘Taint fit day out for fan or pigskin as the Buffalo Bills meet the Boston Patriots for the Eastern title in the American Football League. They have to scrape four inches of snow off the field before Buffalo can go to work on Boston. Buffalo clobbers their arch-enemy, 24 to 14 to win the right to meet San Diego for the title.

OLYMPICS GAMES HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR FOR SPORTS
This was a bright year on the Sports Front, with the Olympic Games the highlight of 1964. Uncle Sam did himself proud in the international games with heroes like swimmer Don Schollander and sprinter Bob Hayes.
BASEBALL WORLD SERIES ST. LOUIS CARDINALS BEAT NEW YORK YANKEES
The World Series had a story-book finish as the Cardinals meet the New York Yankees in the final game and St. Louis goes on to win the World Championship, four games to three.
ARNOLD PALMER AND JACK NICKLAUS TOP MONEY WINNERS IN GOLF
The Masters Golf Tournament was typical of some superb golf played during the year. Arnold Palmer, in winning it, ended a six-month slump. He and Jack Nicklaus were the top money winners.
TRAGEDY AT THE INDIANAPOLIS 500
The Indianapolis 500 saw death at the wheel right from the start. Two drivers were killed and others badly injured in a seven-car pile-up on the second lap.
RACE HORSE 'KELSO' NAME 'HORSE OF THE YEAR' FOR 5th TIME
'Kelso' was named 'Horse of the Year' for the fifth time. He wound up his career by winning the Washington, D.C. International and earned more than $1,800,000 during his long career.
U.S. DOMINATES IN THE AMERICA'S CUP RACE
The United States again dominated the America’s Cup races as the 'Constellation' easily defeated the British 'Sovereign' in four straight races.

The year 1964 could easily have been the beginning of another Golden Age of Sports. When the future looks at this year’s record book there will be page after page of brilliant performances

FLOOD WATERS RAVAGE NORTHWEST
The worst floods to hit the Pacific Northwest in man’s memory, sweep across five states, causing a billion dollars worth of property damage and making tens of thousands homeless.

From Portland and other Oregon towns to Idaho, Washington, Nevada and Northern California, it was a series of disasters as rivers by the score overflowed their banks. Heavy snows, followed by swiftly rising temperatures sent torrents down from the mountains. Then rain followed. The swollen rivers could not contain the great flood.

TERRORISTS ATTACK TROOPS IN SAIGON, VIETNAM
Terrorist attacks against United States troops in Vietnam reach full fury in Saigon as a bomb is exploded at an officers’ headquarters. Two Americans are killed and 98 persons hospitalized among them 63 Americans. Now, with tighter security restrictions, authorities hope to bring such attacks to an end.
PRO FOOTBALL: BALTIMORE COLTS AND CLEVELAND BROWNS PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Baltimore Colts came galloping into Cleveland expecting to romp right home again with the Pro football title. The Browns had different ideas!

Sparked by Frank Ryan who threw three touchdown passes to Gary Collins and the running of Jim Brown, the Cleveland team clobbers the favored Colts. 27 to 0. To the hometown fans that’s doing it up brown; Cleveland Browns, that is.
