RANGER SEVEN SATELLITE REVEALS SOME OF THE MOON'S SECRETS
The Ranger Seven is launched from Cape Kennedy in one of the most successful shoots of the Moon Age. Equipped with cameras designed to send back more than 4,000 pictures, the Ranger made the three-day, 240,000-mile trip without a hitch and photographed the Moon in detain such as man has never observed before. Thus, the United States was carried across new thresholds in space and brought closer to a landing on the Moon.
THE NEW 'MISS UNIVERSE' IS CROWNED
There’s a feast for the eyes in Miami Beach as they choose the beauty who is to reign as 'Miss Universe'. There are beauties from the lands below the equator as well as the pick of the European crop. The winner is 20-year-old 'Miss Greece', Corinna Tsopei.
WATER SKIING WHILE USING A GIANT KITE?

U.S. RETALIATES FOR ATTACKS ON THE 'MADDOX' AND 'C.TURNER JOY'
Swift and sure has been U.S. retaliation for Communist PT-Boat attacks on the high seas. The 'Maddox' and the 'C. Turner Joy' were attacked while patrolling International Waters in the Gulf of Tonkin off North Vietnam.

War planes from two carriers avenged the unwarranted red assault with 64 sorties against North Viet Nam PT-Bases. Twenty- five boats, more than half the fleet, were destroyed and oil reserves badly damaged. President Lyndon Johnson went before the people to announce the U.S. action and Ambassador Adlai Stevenson reported to the United Nations.

Meanwhile, a massive U.S. buildup is underway in Southeast Asia as people of all political faiths rally behind the President in this crisis.
HOLLYWOOD FASHION DESIGNER CREATES THE 'RICH LOOK' FOR NEW HOLLYWOOD FILM
Continuing our coverage of the latest fashion trends, photographed in color, the 'rich”'look may well be the 'new' look as a result of Hollywood designer Jean Louis’ latest effort.

Assigned to create a million-dollar wardrobe for 'the richest girl in the world, actress Sandra Dee playing the role in 'I'd Rather Be Rich', he outdoes himself with glamorous and sophisticated gowns that are readily adaptable to any purse. That is, with the exception of the raincoat; it’s snakeskin lined with (hold your hats) chinchilla fur!

GREECE AND TURKEY ON BRINK OF WAR OVER ISLAND OF CYPRUS
The tinder-box that is Cyprus verges on an explosion as Turkish planes raid Greek Cypriots positions in the Turkish Cypriote area of the divided island. With the two nations at the brink of war, the United Nations Security Council convenes in emergency session and both governments receive a direct appeal for an immediate cease fire with a warning from Ambassador Adlai Stevenson that hostilities must stop.The resolution is passed; 9 to 0.
NAVY FIELDS A 'SEALAB' TO TEST EFFECT OF UNDERWATER LIVING
A man-made island off Bermuda is headquarters for a unique Navy experiment, to find out how man can live under the sea. A ‘sealab’, as the Navy calls it, houses four men for ten days as they see how they will react to this strange environment. Man continues his search for new worlds to conquer.
BOSTON BOOKSELLER GIVES AWAY ENTIRE STOCK TO LUCKY SHOPPERS
Here’s one for the book. A Boston bookstore proprietor is forced to move and hasn’t room for 50,000 books. What to do? Invite everyone to help themselves. Most do all right. These pictures speak volumes.

FOOTBALL CHICAGO BEARS TAKE ON COLLEGE ALL-STAR TEAM
A preview of the coming season. The Chicago Bears take on a team of College All-Stars and the pros find themselves up against a surprisingly strong team in the first half. However, the Bears get down to business in the second half after the college boys had them running scared for a time.

POPE PAUL VI BECOMES FIRST POPE TO TRAVEL BY HELICOPTER
Castel Gondolfo, summer residence of the Popes, is the scene of another historic first in the precedent shattering pontificate of Pope Paul VI. He becomes the first Pontiff to fly in a helicopter as he travels 70 miles to the North to officiate at religious rites.

As Pope, he has flown in Jets, as a Cardinal, he few in a helicopter – but he now becomes the central figure in another first at the Vatican.
GERMAN ARMY PARACHUTE TEAM READIES FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Member of a German Army parachute team supervise the packing of their own parachutes before going aloft to practice. They are getting ready for the international meet that attracts jumpers from 30 nations. Delayed jumps are the thing if you want to hit close to ground targets.
FOUR YEAR OLD IS ALREADY A WATER SKIING MASTER
Meet Danna 'Banana' Morguloff who is only four years old but she possesses a technique that is the envy of water skiers five time her age.

With the Tokyo Olympic Games looming on the horizon, here’s a look back at the Rome meeting in 1 9 6 0. The United States wound up second to Russia, but they came through with some phenomenal wins in both swimming and track and field. Bob Webster and Gary Tobin, in diving, and Otis Davis, Wilma Rudolph and Don Bragg, at track, brought lots of glory to Uncle Sam.

MASSIVE AVALANCHE IN HONG KONG FORCES 6,000 RESIDENTS TO FLEE HOMES
Torrential rains in the wake of Typhoon Ida mounted what was nearly a major disaster in Hong Kong. Loosened by the storm, hundreds of tons of mud roared down from the hillside, burying houses and sending 6,000 people fleeing for their lives. Four persons are missing and presumed dead.
QUEEN ELIZABETH BEGINS VACATION IN SCOTLAND
The quiet little town of Ballster in Scotland comes into the news each summer with the arrival of the Royal Family for a vacation at Balmoral Castle. They’re all here. Princess Anne, Prince Charles and 4 year old Prince Andrew. New on the scene is Prince Edward, five months. And let us not forget a brace of Welsh Corgis.
'MISS INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY IS CROWNED
A grave decision on the international front is resolved as 'Miss Philippines' is chosen as 'Miss International Beauty'. Gemma Cruz says she’s using her $10,000 prize money to establish an orphanage in Manila.

THE DUBLIN HORSE SHOW IS A HORSE LOVERS DELIGHT
Horse lovers consider the Dublin Horse Show the premier attraction in the world of horses and the Centenary exhibit proves why. In the Dublin Horse Jumping Stakes, it’s a duel between two Irish entrants before Tommy Brennan on Donegal is after coming out in front. It was a lovely affair, with all Ireland bursting with pride.

THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION BEGINS IN ATLANTIC CITY
Atlantic City is in a flurry of last-minute preparations for the Democratic Nominating Convention as it prepares to meet at the resort and name Lyndon B. Johnson as their candidate. About the only question is who will be his running mate as cables are strung, personnel briefed and the chairs dusted off.

Meanwhile, in Washington, the President has busy days and nights, before he settles down to campaigning. He greets government 'interns', students studying government as they work during the summer, and throws a reception for Congressional leaders, to thank them for their work during this session.
TOKYO MONRAIL BEING BUILT FOR UPCOMING OLYMPIC GAMES IN JAPAN
With the Olympic games drawing nearer, the first section of a Monorail train is put into operation in Tokyo. This is the longest Monorail in the world and will whisk passengers from the airport to the center of the city, eight miles away. Its operation will be watched with interest by traffic engineers, some of whom feel it is the answer to big city transportation problems.
FABULOUS FASHION SHOW IN UNIVERSAL CITY
When they stage a Fashion Show at Universal City, it’s no bargain basement affair; the models, jewels and gown arrive by armored car! The show is presented by the Los Angeles Chapter of Theta Sigma Phi, the women’s Journalism Sorority.

KEYNOTE SPEECH SETS THE THEME AT DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
Senator John O. Pastore of Rhode Island sets the theme of the Democratic National Convention as he delivers the keynote address before a capacity audience at the Atlantic City Convention Hall.

The Vice-Presidential hopefuls are all on hand as the President continues to keep the choice of his running-mate a secret. Mr. Johnson will be nominated by acclamation and it is expected that the Vice-President will be named unanimously, also.
SHRINE TO THE MEMORY OF PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT IS DEDICATED
The Roosevelt summer home on Campobello Island, off the coast of Maine, but part of New Brunswick, Canada, is dedicated as an international shrine in memory of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Inaugural ceremonies are led by the First Ladies of the United States and Canada; Mrs. Lyndon Johnson and Mrs. Lester Pearson. Here are pictures made just 25 years ago during a Roosevelt vacation on Campobello.
PICK BEGINS FOR U.S. OLYMPIC WEIGHT LIFTING TEAM
There are some weighty problems at hand in New York as they pick the team to represent the United States in the Olympics. Tony Garcy leads the Lightweight Class as he breaks four American records.

Norbert Schemansky, who is running for the Michigan House of Representatives, wins a place for the fourth time on the Olympic team. If he does as well in the election, it will probably be a big load off his shoulders.

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION NOMINATES LYNDON B. JOHNSON
The finger of destiny fixed on Atlantic City points to Senator Hubert Humphrey as he is chosen by President Lyndon B. Johnson to be candidate for the office of Vice President. The President was up at 5:30 a.m. to make fifty phone calls around the nation which served to confirm his opinion that Mr. Humphrey was the man for the job. Later, Mr. Johnson smashed precedent when he went to the convention to ask that Mr. Humphrey be chosen as his running mate.

Both men are nominated by acclamation and the next night (on his 56th birthday) the President returns to Atlantic City to make his acceptance speech that sets the tone for the coming campaign.

ANOTHER SHIFT IN THE REGIME OF SOUTH VIETNAM
Two weeks of rioting and demonstrations in Saigon have brought about another shift in the regime of South Vietnam. Premier Khanh is forced to resign as President a week after assuming that office and dictatorial powers. Dr. Nguyen Oanh, who was educated at Harvard, is assuming the office to head a civilian rule reporting to a military triumvate. Internal strife again threatens South Vietnam in her war to the death with the Communist rebels.
OLYMPIC TORCH IS LIT ONCE AGAIN AT THE FOOT OF MT. OLYMPUS
At the foot of Mt. Olympus, where the ancient Greeks held their games of athletic skill, King Constantine passes on a torch to the first of a series of runners who will carry it to Athens. From there it will be flown to Tokyo where the ancient flame will illuminate the modern Olympic Games.
GERMAN DESIGNERS PUT ON A FASHION SHOW FOR THE MALE
Let cheers ring out, men, the millennium is here; a fashion show for us alone! Throw off the old, it’s on with the new. At Cologne, Germany, European designers unveil what they would like the male to wear. For example, knickers are back from hiding on the Scottish Moors and they have formal wear that you have to zip yourself into. Next week, equal time for the ladies.
LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES IN WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA
The Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, is a thriller as Staten Island’s pitcher, Dan Yaccarino, pitches a no-hit, no-run game against Monterrey, Mexico. The New York hurler allows only one man to get on base and also hits a home-run as they win the game, 4 to 0.
