SEAT FOR NEW YORK STATE SENATE, KENNETH KEATING vs. ROBERT KENNEDY
The New York State Republicans nominate incumbent Senator Kenneth Keating for the U. S. Senate in a race that will see him opposing Attorney-General Robert F. Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy took up residence in New York to make the race and there have been cries of “carpetbagger” from the Republicans. It’s a local race that’s in the national spotlight.
AMERICA MOURNS THE PASSING OF SERGEANT ALVIN YORK
A man who became a legend in his own lifetime is dead. Sergeant Alvin Cullum York wiped out a German machine gun battalion in World War I, winning the Congressional Medal of Honor and 50 other decorations. He refused to capitalize on his heroism and lived and worked among his Tennessee hill people. He said: 'This uniform ain’t for sale'.

NEW DEEP SEA SUBMERSIBLE CAN DIVE NEARLY THREE MILES
They call it the 'Aluminaut' and it’s one of the most revolutionary craft ever built. With a six-inch aluminum hull, the sub will dive 15,000 feet. Launched at Groton, Conn., it will carry a pilot and two scientists and is equipped to take samples from Davy Jones’ Locker.
SAN QUENTIN PRISON ART SHOW OF BUDDING PRISON ARTISTS
San Quentin offers no bars to a prisoner who wishes to express himself through art and 9,000 outsiders flock to see the annual Art Show. There are more than 800 items on display and the prisoners sell their works at anywhere from $1.25 to $200.00.
DRILLING RIGS BRING WATER BACK TO THE SAHARA WASTELANDS
The stark wasteland of the Sahara that has lain fallow since the days of the Pharoahs is being reclaimed. Great drilling rigs bring in water from an underground sea 3,000 feet below the surface. Now the desert is blooming and resettled families expect to grow three rich crops a year where nothing would bloom before.
NORTHERN WATER SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE NETHERLANDS
The Northern European water-ski championships bring the best to The Netherlands as they hold a meet at Amsterdam. Germany’s Karl Benziger jumps off with the title with a leap of 108 feet and Nils Anderson takes the slalom title for Sweden.
GERMAN DIVERS COMPETE FOR SPOT ON OLYMPIC TEAM
In a curtain-raiser for the Tokyo Olympics, many of Germany’s top divers – male and female, go after the National crown. It’s a display of beautiful form as a special camera records every twist and turn from the springboard and the high platform.
