The annual pilgrimage of directors to the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital at Saranac Lake, New York, and progress report on the hospital where show business takes care of its own. Pioneering new research facilities make news this year.

"PORTRAIT IN BLACK" PREMIERES:
Universal-International's new screen drama premieres in Chicago and in Hollywood. In Chicago, a gala parade to the theatre highlights the occasion, with Virginia Grey Anna May Wong, and John Saxton taking part. In Hollywood, the premiere is one of the film capital's most glittering, with Lana Turner, star of the new film, and a host of luminaries on hand.

GRAND PRIX HIGHLIGHTS PARIS SEASON:

IKE CUTS CUBA SUGAR QUOTA
In response to the calculated hostility of Fidel Castro's regime, President Eisenhower cuts Cuba's assigned share of the U.S. sugar market by 95%. Good news to other world sugar producers, but a costly blow to Cuba which receives a premium over the world market price. Castro is expected to react to the $92 million loss with new seizures of American property.

CONVENTION EXCITEMENT IN LOS ANGELES:
Pre-nomination politicking reaches a peak, and convention excitement grips Los Angeles, as the Democrats battle happily and heatedly to choose their Presidential standard-bearer. A whirl of color and activity covered by an army of newsmen.

GOTHAM HAILS THAI KING:
New York's traditional civic welcome for visiting notables is extended Thailand's King Phumiphol Aduldet and Queen Sirikit, with a parade on Broadway for the King through a blizzard of confetti, and official ceremonies at City Hall.

TRANSCONTINENTAL TREK:
Britain's, Dr. Barbara Moore completes her epic hike from San Francisco to New York, with a triumphant reception in Times Square from admirers and fellow-vegetarians.

WIMBLEDON COURT FINALS:
The most coveted court titles, and some of the world's greatest tennis at Wimbledon. Brazil's Maria Bueno retains her crown in the women's finals, while Neil Fraser downs his fellow-Australian Rod Laver for the men's title.

16,000 gymnasts stage an amazing precision drill of mass calisthenics at Prague to bring Czechoslovakia's National Sports Festival to an awesome climax.

CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS
Highlights of the Democratic convention in Los Angeles as the contenders for the nomination go down to the wire. Senator Frank Church's keynote address sounds the common battle cry, when the inter-party skirmishing is over and the real target, the G.O.P. is in sight.

CHAOS IN CONGO
In the newly-independent Congo, less than 11 days after official freedom from Belgium, violence and terror as native Congolese troops mutiny and begin a far-ranging siege of looting and pillaging. Thousands of whites flee. Belgian paratroopers are hastily recalled to battle mutineers.

KILLER SUB LAUNCHED
At Portsmouth, N. H., the Navy's newest nuclear attack sub, "Thresher", is launched. The most advanced undersea combat craft yet, "Thresher" mounts movable torpedo tubes amidships, and boasts new silence in operation.

MISS UNIVERSE, I960
At Miami Beach, an American beauty just out of high school outpoints finalists from all over the world for the coveted Miss Universe crown. Raven haired Linda Bement measures up to the honor, 37-23-36.

NAGLE TAKES BRITISH OPEN
The most venerable tournament in golf, the Centennial British Open, on the most historic course, St. Andrews, of Scotland. And high excitement as Ken Nagle first overtakes de Vicenzo's early lead, and then staves off a late challenge by Arnold Palmer, who misses by only one stroke!

HOLLYWOOD DERBY
Turf thrills at Hollywood Park in the rich Hollywood Derby. A last minute surge by Tempestuous out of the pack brings the 6-1 entry down to the wire first in a dazzling finale. TV Lark's attempt to overtake is fought off by the powerful Tempestuous.

DEMS NAME KENNEDY and JOHNSON
The Democratic National Convention winds up with the nomination of Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson as running mate of presidential candidate Senator John F. Kennedy, climaxing a spectacular battle for the Presidential nomination in which despite strong campaigns for Senator Johnson and Adlai Stevenson, Kennedy rolls to an overwhelming victory on the first ballot.

U. N. SENDS TROOPS TO CONGO:
Violence and anarchy continue in the newly-independent Congo. In Belgium, demonstrations against the government by citizens outraged by violence against Belgian nationals. In the Security Council, after an angry clash between the U.S. and the Soviet, Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold is authorized to send a peace force to the troubled Congo.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

FLYING FLIVVERS were the object of popular attention, looked to fill the skies with Sunday drivers. FLEXIBLE GLASS was one of the wonders of science foreshadowing the years ahead. The W.P.A. got under way, recruiting the first 15,000 for the New Deal's public works program. ALL THE BEER YOU COULD DRINK in one Hour, 60-cents for 60 minutes, electrified Texas. In New York, a mammoth ANTI-FASCIST RALLY protesting Mussolini's aggression against Ethiopia.

CONGO CRISIS CONTINUES:
Tension continues to run high in the Congo. Despite the arrival of United Nations troops, the exodus of settlers continues; and Belgian paratroops continue to hold key-positions, in defiance of Congolese demands for their withdrawal and threats that Soviet assistance will be requested.

KENNEDY HOMECOMING:
The quiet Cape Cod town of Hyannisport, Mass., stages a monumental homecoming celebration for Democratic Presidential nominee, Senator John F. Kennedy. 100,000 cheer his return. Mrs. Kennedy is at the airport to greet him.

ATTEMPT KISHI ASSASSINATION:
On the spot films show Premier Kishi moments after the attack on his life by a knife-wielding terrorist, and the seizure of the would-be killer, the very day Kishi stepped down from office. Films of rare immediacy and dramatic impact.

AIR SHOW IN GERMANY:

G.O.P. CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS
Interest and excitement mount in Chicago even before the arrival of Vice-President Nixon and the formal opening of the Republican National Convention. New York's Governor Rockefeller, following his 14-point platform agreement with Nixon, dominates the pre-convention spotlight. Although he's ruled himself out as a candidate for either the number 1 or 2 spots, his enthusiasts continue a stirring series of demonstrations.

LODGE DEBUNKS RED SPY CHARGES:
In Security Council debate in New York. Ambassador Lodge gives the lie to Soviet charges that the R-B-47 reconnaissance jet shot down by Red fighters was on a spy flight. He reveals the plane's flight was tracked by U.S. secret devices, which show that Red fighters actually attempted to force the plane from its flight over international waters into Red air space before shooting it down. A dramatic denunciation of Soviet piracy.

BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE:
In Colorado, Boy Scouts from all over the world assemble for scouting's 5th National jamboree, the golden anniversary get-to-gether of the scouting movement in the United States. A stirring and exciting schedule of events, from impressive opening ceremonies through the busy days of friendly competition and get-togethers among youths of many different lands.

ITALY'S FASHION WAR ON PARIS:
Italy's high fashion general staff declares war on Paris' style supremacy, revealing a dazzling collection for 1961, assembled from the lines of top Italian designers, and breath-takingly showcased against the classic landmarks of the Eternal City.

U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN GOLF:
At Worcester, Mass., blazing competition among top distaffgolfers. In the final round, Betsy Rawls holds a lead against close-trailing and hard-pressing challengers and goes on to win her 4th U.S. Open, the first time ever for a woman!

G. O. P. NAMES NIXON and LODGE
Highlights of the G.O.P's gala, hundredth-anniversary convention.

PRESIDENT EISENHOWER is acclaimed by one million Chicagoans as he arrives in the Windy City. The midwest metropolis, scene of the President's first great political triumph in 1952, gives the Chief Executive an unforgettable welcome. A rousing ovation at the convention itself greets Ike and Mamie. In a stirring speech, the President strongly endorses the Republican bid to the nation.

Following Ike's appearance, the convention nominates VICE-PRESIDENT NIXON as the standard bearer in the Presidential campaign. Later Mr. Nixon announces his choice of U. N. Ambassador HENRY CABOT LODGE as his running mate.

With Nixon's first ballot victory and the choice by acclamation of Nixon and Lodge for the Republican candidates, the lines are drawn for what promises to be one of the most stirring and momentous Presidential contests of the 20th Century.
