KENNEDY MEETS NIXON:
At Key Biscayne, Florida, a post-campaign meeting between President-elect Senator John F. Kennedy and his opponent, Vice-President Richard M. Nixon, intended to restore their cordial relationship of 14 years' standing. Both Kennedy and Nixon are reserved as to the details of their 63-minute talk despite rumors Kennedy would offer Nixon a post in the Administration.

Football: PURDUE 23 - MINNESOTA 14:
At Minneapolis, Minnesota's Gophers, top-ranked in the nation, take on the challenge of the Purdue Boiler-Makers. Purdue's first half aerial offensive flattens the Gophers and topples them from unbeaten status, 23-14.

MISSOURI 41 - OKLAHOMA 19:
Oklahoma's Sooners challenge- Missouri's second-rated eleven and go down to 41-19 defeat, despite a game and hard-fought battle. Oklahoma trails by only 5 points in the last period but the daring play of Ole Miss breaks the game wide open.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Los Angeles menaced by a ring of destructive brush fires that take a heavy toll in the arc from the swank FILM_COLONY of Malibu Beach clear around the city. Make-Up Maestro MAX FACTOR opens a $600,000 salon in Hollywood, and ranking stars of the film capital turn out in force for the GALA PREMIERE. In New York, a men's beauty parlor opens, with one of the first patrons JIMMY DURANTE in a hilarious live-sound sequence as "the Schnoz" gets a facial!

FIRST POLARIS A-SUB GOES ON DUTY
At Charleston, South Carolina, the George Washington, first A-Sub designed to carry the Polaris missile, takes aboard 16 of the giant rockets, each loaded with an H-bomb warhead, and sails on ocean patrol, inaugurating a new era of naval warfare.

SPACE CAPSULE RECOVERED:
Over the Pacific, airmen snare a capsule fired from the orbiting Discoverer XVII satellite. It's the most successful operation yet in the Discoverer program, marked by the first re-starting of a rocket engine in space, and recovery of biological specimens.

NEW ENGINE TESTED IN X-15:
Over Edwards Air Force Base, the half-rocket ship, half airplane, X-15 is piloted by Scott Crossfield on the first test of a new engine over three times as powerful as the rocket that's already carried the X-15 to record heights and speeds.

RIOTS IN ALGERIA:
Strife torn Algiers witnesses new violence between Frenchman and Frenchman as police battle students and veterans in a rock throwing melee that began in protest against DeGaulle's new policy of permitting Algeria to choose between independence and status as part of France.

"MIDNIGHT LACE" HAILED IN HOLLYWOOD!
Filmland turns out en masse for the glittering Hollywood Premiere of U-I's new hit drama, "MIDNIGHT LACE". Among those on hand are Doris Day, John Gavin, Anna May Wong, Martha Hyer, Ross Hunter, Janet Lake and John Saxon.

YALE BEATS PRINCETON 43-22:
At New Haven the undefeated Yale 11 battles to Eli's highest score over Princeton since 1931. "Bulldog" Tom Singleton stars throughout the game as the Tigers gallant fight fails to stem the tide.

3 DIE IN MANHATTAN LOFT FIRE:
Three firemen die as a roaring inferno rages through one building in Manhattan's lower Broadway loft area, long a breeding place for costly blazes, and spreads to two adjoining structures. The nine alarm blaze is battled at night and on into the next day.

PRO U.S PARTY WINS JAPAN ELECTION:
Premier Ikeda's pro-United States party wins a solid majority in Japanese elections which are conducted with relative calmness despite riots earlier this year and the recent assassination of Socialist leader Inejiro Asanuma.

CONGO MILITARY PARADE:
Congolese strongman Mobutu stages a parade of 3,000 troops that wins praise from U N officials and foreign diplomats, going far to offset recent criticism to the U N that forces under his control lack discipline.

ClARK GABLE FUNERAL:
Hollywood honors "the King" in ceremonies at Forest Lawn cemetery. Many filmland luminaries including Jimmy Stewart, Spencer Tracy and director Frank Capra attend military rites for Clark Gable.

SOUTHERN CAL UPSETS UCLA:
In Los-Angeles, the Trojans of Southern California upset their regional rivals of UCLA, striking hard and fast for a 17-6 victory.

KANSAS ROUTS MISSOURI:
In Columbia, Mo,, the Kansas Jayhawks topple unbeaten Missouri 23-7 - crushing the stonewall defense of the Tigers and storming to a decisive victory to win the Big 8 conference title.

WEATHERMAN SATELLITE IN ORBIT
From Cape Canaveral, the TIROS II satellite is fired into a nearly perfect circular orbit around the earth. Fitted with two TV cameras, it broadcasts back pictures of the earth's cloud cover over vast areas, for study by ground observers paving the way for a robot weatherman in the sky.

BIGGEST SUB IN POLARIS FLEET LAUNCHED:
At Groton, Conn., the "ETHAN ALLAN", biggest and most powerful in the Navy's nuclear fleet of Polaris-firing subs is launched. The new craft is the first designed to carry new longer-range Polaris missiles.

JOHNSON PLEDGES NATO SUPPORT:
In Paris, Vice-President-elect Senator Lyndon B. Johnson addresses the annual meeting of parliament members from the NATO nations, pledging continued U.S. support of the alliance, and calling for expansion into economic and social activities.

MEXICO PARADES IN HONOR OF MADERO:
In Mexico City, the nation's 50th Anniversary celebration of the 1910 Revolution is marked by the transfer of the remains of national hero Francisco Madero to the Monument of the Revolution, and by a giant, gala parade of sports clubs.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

MOUNT VESUVIUS went into eruption, opening up new craters and sending fiery rivers of lava pouring down its scarred slopes. MUSSOLINI staged a massive show of military might in boastful defiance of League of Nations sanctions. A devastating SLEET-STORM paralyzed ATLANTA, running up a damage toll of $2 million. The PRINCETON-DARTMOUTH game is still remembered, not for the Tigers' smashing 26-6 victory, but for the hilarious 4th quarter venture of a happy fan onto the field to help out the Princeton eleven!

John F. Kennedy's children steal the headlines from the President-elect. Afterwards, the President-elect goes on to the hospital to visit Mrs. Kennedy and his infant son, John P. Kennedy, Jr.

FORMOSA MANEUVERS:
Nationalist Chinese forces put on the greatest show of strength since being driven from the mainland. Chiang Kai Shek watches 60,000 men in amphibious maneuvers that dramatically demonstrate the defense strength of Formosa.

MacMILLAN VISITS POPE JOHN XXIII:
Britain's Prime Minister MacMillan and Foreign Secretary Lord Hune are received by Pope John XXIII, following two days of talks with Italian government officials in Rome.

EIRE MOURNS HEROES:
Eire mourns 9 soldiers slain in a Congo ambush while serving with United Nations forces. In the solemn state funeral, the flag of the world organization for the first time drapes the caskets of soldiers fallen in its service, martyrs to peace.

NAVY WINS 17-12 AS CADET RALLY FAILS:
At Philadelphia, one of the most stirring games in the history of the Interservice football classic. Trailing 17-0 at half-time, Army stages a fierce rally that closes the gap to 17-12. Then, in the closing minutes, a final drive stalls when a fumbled pitch-out costs Army 14 yards, and a final desperation pass is intercepted on the goal line by Navy's amazing Joe Bellino who runs the ball back 45 yards to bring Navy out of the storm, to a 17-12 victory and an Orange Bowl bid.....

The San Francisco 49ers upset the NFL champion Baltimore Colts 30-22 in a seesaw battle before 60,000 at Baltimore. In the last minute and a half, a lateral pass brings victory out of defeat for the 49ers.

Dramatic scenes of ex-Premier Patrice Lumumba following his capture, he is returned to Leopoldville to face strong-man Mobutu. STUDENTS RIOT IN CARACAS:
Pro-Castro students take arms and clash with police and army units in Caracas, for a week of trial by violence for the democratic government of Romulo Betancourt.

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY VISITS POPE JOHN:
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of England, arrives in Rome for an historic visit to Pope John XXIII. It's the first meeting between an Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope since 100 years before Henry VIII broke with the Church of Rome.

SANDRA DEE, BOBBY DARIN WED:
Actress Sandra Dee and Singer Bobby Darin, idols of American teenagers, arrive in Los Angeles for a brief honeymoon following their surprise wedding. In Los Angeles, the Duke Blue Devils, on their first West Coast visit since 1939, are battered by UCLA whose smashing attack is spearheaded by Bill Kilmer and Bobby Smith.

GREEN BAY BLASTS BEARS 41-13:
In pro football, the Green Bay Packers' Paul Hornung runs wild against the Bears, accounting for 23 points with two TDs, two field goals, and five conversions, bringing his season scoring mark to new league record and carrying the Packers to a three way tie for the league lead with a 41-13 victory.

In one of the most sensational pro games of the year, the Detroirt Lions beat the Baltimore Colts 20-15, rallying after the Colts take the lead with only 14 seconds left. In the final second, the Lions start a pass play that pays off with victory!

PALACE COUP OUSTS HAILE SELASSIE:
Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is ousted from the throne by a social reform regime backed by his eldest son. The coup came as the monarch was visiting Brazil. Scenes show Halle Selassie arriving in Ghana at the start of his tour, his son on a visit to Tokyo just a year ago, and scenes of the Silver Jubilee of his reign in 1955.

KENNEDY NAMES CABINET MEMBERS:
In New York, President-elect Kennedy's appointees to the key posts of Secretary of State and Ambassador to the U.N., Dean Rusk and Adlai Stevenson, hold a press conference, as in the capital, the appointment of Robert McNamara, president of the Ford Motor Company, as Secretary of Defense, is announced.

NOBEL PRIZE AWARDS:
In Stockholm, two Americans receive Nobel Prizes for Physics and Chemistry. King Gustav VI Adolf confers the prestigious award on Dr. Donald Glasser and Prof.Willard Libby.

DURANTE WEDS:
In New York, comedian Jimmy Durante weds Margie Little, after a 16-year courtship, in ceremonies at St. Malachy's Church. A momentous occasion for "the Schnozz".

PAINTED HAIRDOS' IN PARIS:
In Paris, the latest fashion fad is painted hairdos. Scenes show the artiste touching up mamselle's coiffure with brush and pallette to match her ensemble.

ROCKET SOCIETY AWARD:
In Washington, D.C., the nation's top prize in the field of space research, the $1,000 Rocket Society award, goes to Cornell student Julian I. Palmore of Baltimore, Md.

MOTOR-SOCCER:
