POLITICS - U.S.A.: CANDIDATES IN SPOTLIGHT:
In Washington, Vice-President Nixon confers with his running mate, Ambassador Lodge. Still resting from his hectic week at the G.O.P. Convention, Mr. Nixon is about to take off on his first campaign swing through the Far West and Hawaii. At his Hyannis Port, Mass., vacation headquarters, Senator Kennedy meets with his running mate Senator Lyndon Johnson to discuss strategy plans for the campaign and the Fall session of Congress, and hold a joint press conference.

IKE GREETS BOY SCOUTS:
President Eisenhower makes a 130 mile round trip from Denver to the Colorado encampment of the International Boy Scout Jamboree, where he's hailed by 56 thousand scouts from all over the world.

CASTRO AILING: RAUL HURRIES HOME:
Fidel Castro, ordered by doctors to take a complete rest from his activities as leader of Cuba's revolutionary government, temporarily steps out of the spotlight. He's shown in one of his last public appearances at the celebration of his movement's 7th anniversary. Brother Raul Castro, Fidel's heir apparent, is shown receiving a Red carpet reception in Moscow, from which he hastened back to Havana.

Fashion Parade:
ITALY'S NEW LOOK:--Italy launches a "new look" for 1961, with emphasis on the opulent and extravagant. Evening gowns are lavish in manner with costly fabrics, long trains, and dramatic mantles. Casual wear is off-beat and highly adorned, with fringes and literally "loopy" effects galore.

AQUARAMA i960 DIVING CAVALCADE
In New York, a cavalcade of ohampion divers in thrills from the high board, followed by the wild antics of the Aqua-Maniacs, featuring "the man with the iron stomach"......

"0N-AND-0N" WINS BROOKLYN DERBY:
Racing in a sea of mud at Aqueduct during one of New York's worst storms in years, 15-1 shot "On-and-On" stages a sensational drive in the home stretch to overtake "Greek Star", leader from the post, and win the $110,000 Brooklyn Handicap.

MARCH OF EVENTS in CONGO CRISIS:
As United Nations forces take up positions across the vast reaches of the Congo and the center of crisis shifts to rebellious Katanga province, Belgium gives a heroic welcome to the first contingents of paratroops to return. King Baudouin greets the paras at the airport, and the city hails them as they parade through.

COAST-TO-COAST VIA MOON:
In a preview of space-age global communications, scientists make a long distance telephone call from New Jersey to California by bouncing the voice signals off the moon. It's the forerunner of a similar system that will use a network of artificial satellites.

HERBERT HOOVER HONORED:
Aboard the ship named for him, former President Hoover is honored by San Francisco's business leaders just before his 86th birthday. Among those present are Senator Knowland and Fleet Admiral Nimitz.

Fashion Parade:
Italy's stylists continue their all-out campaign to launch a new look for 1961, parading an array of hats and head-pieces which indicate they'll do anything to be different.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

WILL ROGERS and WILEY POST are shown as they begin their flight to the Arctic which was to end in tragic death. MUSSOLINI and KING VICTOR EMMANUEL review half a million troops in Alpine maneuvers. PRINCE UMBERTO bids farewell to Fascist legions embarking for East Africa and the ETHIOPIAN WAR. A royal garden party shows the BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY, 25 years ago - KING GEORGE V and QUEEN MARY, the little PRINCESS ELIZABETH, now the Queen, her father, later KING GEORGE VI, the Prince of Wales, to be KING EDWARD VIII and after his abdication the DUKE OF WINDSOR.

U.N. CONSIDERS KATANGA CRISIS:
At U.N. Headquarters in New York, Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold calls for a resolution for speedy withdrawal of Belgian troops from Katanga and a promise of non-interference in the Congo's internal affairs. Nevertheless, Katanga is very much in the international picture.

PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFULS TAKE SPOTLIGHT!
President Eisenhower admonishes the Senate to set politics aside to complete important legislation, but it will be very difficult to forget the Presidential campaign with Senator Kennedy and Vice-President Nixon sitting in the extra session.

CASTRO BLASTS U.S. AGAIN:
Premier Castro makes an appearance before the Pan-American Youth Congress in Havana and announces the seizure of three quarters of a billion dollars of U.S. property in Cuba. Though ailing, Premier Castro is still an imposing figure in the cold war.

BEAUTIES ON PARADE:
A sight for sore eyes as the International Beauty Congress gets underway in Long Beach, California with a pageant of loveliness from every corner of the world.

BRAZIL TAKES SOCCER TITLE:
At the Polo Grounds in New York, Bangu of Brazil does some fancy footwork against Kilmarnock of Scotland to win the American Cup Playoff in the International Soccer League, two to nothing.

FAVORITE TAKES 5TH STAKES:
A finish as close as they come at Monmouth Park, New Jersey, as the favorite, "Hail To Reason , beats a long shot under tho wire.

KE CALLS FOR CONGRESSIONAL ACTION:
In his first press conference since returning from his Newport vacation President Eisenhower tells newsmen that the nation's business should come before politicking in congress.

VOLUNTEERS FOR KATANGA:
Volunteers take cheerfully to military training in Katanga despite the fact that tensions are easing in the Congolese Province.

CUBA HOLDS MOCK FUNERAL:
Havana crowds attend a mock funeral for the Cuban Telephone Company, recently nationalized by the Castro government.

PRINCE CHARLIE's FIRST VISIT TO WALES:
Bonnie Prince Charlie, with the Royal Family, makes his first visit to his Principality since becoming Prince of Wales.

IRON LUNG BABY:
The 1958 Polio Mother of the Year shows off her six pound fourteen ounce daughter, born despite the fact that she has been confined to an iron lung for the past three months.

SAFE DRIVING FOR TEEN-AGERS: Fifty-one finalists compete for scholarships in the teen age Road-E-0, a test of driving skill where fractions of an inch may make the difference.

DIVING COMPETITION: Divers from nine nations practice in Bad Kissingen in a pre-Olympic warm up that spells stiff and graceful competition for America's hopefuls.

FIRST RECOVERY OF CAPSULE FROM ORBIT:
A series of major accomplishments in quick succession for U.S. spacemen. After the successful launching of the Discoverer XIII the satellite orbits 17 times, then releases a payload capsule which is recovered from the Pacific three hours later. The first time in history any object has been successfully recovered from an orbit in outer space.

ECHO BALLOON RELAYS VOICES FROM SPACE:
A three-stage Thor Delta rocket carries into orbit from Cape Canaveral a unique satellite -Echo I, a 100 foot balloon, which opens a new era in global communication. The giant balloon acts as a radio mirror, bouncing long-range messages from Earth off its surface.

ROCKET PILOT REACHES HIGHEST ALTITUDE:
Major Robert M. White pilots the X-15 rocket plane to the greatest altitude ever attained by man, nearly 25 miles over Edwards Air Force Base, California - to the very threshold of space. A series of achievements that mark spectacular gains by America in the race into space.

COLTS DOWN COLLEGE GRID STARS:
At Soldiers Field, Chicago, the 27th annual pre-season grid outing by the College All-Stars against the N.F.L. champion Baltimore Colts. Sparked by the red-hot passing of Johnny Unitas, the Colts gallop to a 32-7 triumph, with the collegians' sole tally coming on a brilliant 60-yard run by Prentice Gautt.

SILVER SONG WINS AMERICAN TROTTING CHAMPIONSHIP:
Roosevelt Raceway's biggest crowd of the season sees Silver Song win the $25,000 purse and the right to carry Old Glory in the International Trot in a thrilling, down-to-the-wire stretch duel with Streamin' Demon, who shifts into a pace in the stretch, but is outpaced anyhow by Silver Song.

America takes another forward stride in the Space Race with a mid-air recovery of a capsule from orbit. Over the Pacific, Air Force Flying Boxcars deftly snare the descending Discoverer XIV capsule in a brilliant display of precision flying and scientific achievement.

LIBERTY BELL TO TEXAS:
A modern replica of Philadelphia's Liberty Bell arrives in Houston, en route to Liberty, Texas, where it will serve as the symbol for the fight of the Liberty Muscular Dystrophy Foundation for freedom from the dread disease.

OLYMPIANS POUR INTO ROME:
Rome's Ciampino Airport is swamped by the inrush of athletes for the 1960 Olympics ó 8,000 sports stars from 87 lands for what promises to be the greatest sports spectacle of modern times.

INTERNATIONAL TROT;
The greatest crowd in the history of harness racing turns out at Roosevelt Raceway for the International Trot, and cheers a sensational thriller-diller finish, with "Hairos" and "Crevalcore" in a terrific come-from-behind stretch battle. It's "Hairos" at the wire after a terrific challenge!

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

The bombastic strong man of the Bayou State, HUEY LONG, is assassinated. Thousands upon thousands, friends and foes alike, . turn out for the Baton Rouge funeral ceremonies of Louisiana's spectacular great man. Heavyweights MAX & BUDDY BAER train in upstate New York. Aviation thrills in the Thompson Trophy Race at Cleveland where COL. ROSCOE TURNER is forced out with a burning engine, and HAROLD NEUMAN goes on to win at a sizzling 220 m.p.h. O.A.S. ACTS AGAINST TRUJILLO - IKE COMMENTS ON CUBAN CRISIS:
Meeting in Costa Rica, the Organization of American States takes the unprecedented step of imposing economic and diplomatic sanctions against the Dominican Republic, following charges that Trujillo ordered an assassination attempt on the President of Venezuela. The next topic, Soviet infiltration of Cuba, provokes an explosive reaction from Castro, and as the Cuban crisis seems to worsen, President Eisenhower at his White House press conference keeps open the door for conciliation between Cuba and the other hemisphere states.

SEADRAGON CONQUERS NORTHWEST PASSAGE:
The nuclear submarine Seadragon conquers the almost legendary Northwest Passage with the first underwater cruise from the Atlantic across the top of North America, surfacing briefly in Baffin Bay. Seadragon tops off its feat with a run to the North Pole, under the Arctic ice-pack, before-heading into the Pacific.

FLOODS DEVASTATE PHILIPPINES:
Vast areas of the Philippines' chief island, Luzon, are turned into inland seas by two weeks of torrential rains. The flood disaster is on the scale of a national emergency, with thousands presently affected, and crop losses and the threat of epidemic posing grave threats for the future.

ICE CAPADES PREVIEWED:
At Atlantic City N.J., a preview of the dazzling 21st edition of the Ice Capades, as the thrilling show sets out on national tour. Brilliant routines by the show's headliners spotlight an exciting story.

NEW TURMOIL IN CONGO:
Civil strife seems imminent in the Congo, as police charge a hostile mob chanting "Death to Lumumba" and drive off the crowd in a violent clash. Mob assault on U. N. soldiers and threats by Lumumba to invade secessionist Katanga Province further stir new tensions in the explosive crisis.

In Brussels, King Baudouin leads mourning for 49 Belgian troops who died in a crash while returning home after evacuation fron the Congo.

TANK KILLING BABY MISSILE:
In Britain, a mighty mite of a missile is revealed. The tiny rocket trails a mile-long cable over which it receives guidance signals. Animation sequences and live demonstrations show how it can be steered in pursuit of the most evasive target.

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES:
In Williamsport, Pa., the Levittown, Pa., and Fort Worth, Texas Little Leaguers meet in the final game of the World Series. Levittown pitcher Joe Mornora slams out a home run and pitches a 16 strike-out no-hitter to bring his team the championship, with one of the finest performances in Little League history.

OLYMPIC PAGEANTRY IN ROME:
The 17th modern Olympiad opens in RoMe with over 4,000 athletes taking part in ceremonies of memorable splendor and solemnity, 84 nations are represented in the opening of the games which are looked to for some of the most thrllllng international competition in the annals of sports, and which live up to the promise in the first actual events, featuring startling upsets and breath-takingly close decisions.........

PENN. R.R. STRIKE:
20,000 shop employees go out on strike shutting down the Pennsylvania Railroad for the first time in its 114 year history. 136,000 in 13 states are affected by the cut-off in service by the country's biggest rail carrier.

MOURN JORDAN PREMIER:
In Jordan, King Hussein, leads the funeral services for Premier Hazza Majali and 11 others who died in the blast of an assassin's time bomb. Blaming Syrian agents, King Hussein may break relations with the United Arab Republic.

NIXON HOSPITALIZED:
An infected knee keeps Vice-President Nixon from the campaign trail. Laid up in Washington's Walter Reed Hospital for about 2 weeks, he works on campaign speeches and receives a visit from Ike.

INDIA HIT BY HEAVY FLOODS:
One of the worst floods to hit India in many years affects four million people and causes losses to precious live-stock. The future holds long-range flood control projects, but the present is a time of bitterness and sorrow.

BERLIN POLICE SHOW:
West Berlin's police stage their annual show in Olympic Stadium before 100,000. Highlights include precision motor-cycle drills and performances by the city's incredible police dogs.

FINGER WRESTLING IN ALPS:
Mountaineers heave and haul in the knuckle-busting sport of finger wrestling. Each wrestler hooks a finger through a leather loop, as they sit facing across a table, and then it's muscle all the way.

"BLAZE HANOVER" CAPTURES HAMBLETONIAN:
At DuQuoin, Illinois, the classic Hambletonian goes into four heats before there's a winner, for the first time in 26 years. In the slowest pace of the day, "Blaze Hanover" holds the lead all the way to win more than $85,000 and the greatest race in harness.
