NEW DELHI – Already devastated by man made horrors, India suffers a severe visitation of nature – floods. A wide area around New Delhi is under water, and refugees are cut off from freedom as railroads are washed out.

TORNADO RIPS CITY
JACKSONVILLE – Close on the heels of high tides and raging seas, a freak twister strikes another part of the city, uprooting trees, ripping homes and causing extensive damage in a trailer camp.

CHINA ORPHANS SAVED
SHANGHAI – An errand of mercy. A member of a mission rides into the city, his bicycle weighted down with bamboo baskets filled with tiny orphans, who receive shelter and food and a chance for survival.

MEDICAL CENTER STARTED
OKLAHOMA CITY – Major Gen. Groves, State officials and members of the Variety Club are among the principal guests at the dedication of the site for the new Oklahoma Medical Center.

CANDLE-LIGHT PARADE
BOSTON – 50,000 members of the Holy Name Society, led by Archbishop Cushing, take part in Holy Hour ceremonies at Braves Field. Spectacular sight of thousands of candles in darkened stadium.

JET “FLYING WING” SEEN
HAWTHORNE, CAL. – The AAF takes the wraps off the new Northrup YB-49 jet-propelled version of the flying wing bomber. The huge boomerang shaped monster rolls out for initial ground tests.

JET FIGHTERS ROAR
FORT DIX, N.J. – Sleek 600 m.p.h. P-80 fighters of the 344th Squadron roar down on the target range and blast away with amazing precision. One after another, the jet fighters dip down at low altitude.

TEXAS PRISON RODEO
HUNTSVILLE – A lot of inmates at the State Penitentiary may be down thrown down by buckin’ broncs and ragin’ steers – but they’re not out. Several dare-devils in prison garb are badly hurt.

GREEN BAY TOPS RAMS
MILWAUKEE – It’s close, rough, and never ending with thrills when the Packers pile up seventeen points over the Los Angeles Rams, and then hold on to win, 17-14.

RICE TIES SOUTHERN CAL.
LOS ANGELES – When the U.S.C. Trojans and the Rice Institute Owls square off before a huge crowd at L.A., it’s even seven all the way, with each team scoring one touchdown during an exciting clash.

FIRST WAR DEAD COME HOME
SAN FRANCISCO – The first of America’s war dead come home. A hushed throng of 5,000 stands in silence as the steamer Honda Knot arrives with the bodies of 3,028 men who died in the Pacific. Impressive rites are held at City Hall.

U.S. BACKS ZION SPLIT
NEW YORK – The U.S. backs the proposed partition of Palestine, with reservations. Herschel Johnson announces our stand in a speech to the United Nations, calling for a volunteer police force under U.N. auspices.

REFUGEE SHIPS SEIZED
HAIFA – Two ships carrying illegal immigrants to Palestine are seized and boarded by the British at Haifa. Most of those on board will go to concentration camps at Cyprus.

NEWS NOTES FROM JAPAN
YOKOHAMA – Sgt. Joseph Ferguson greets his family, largest occupation family to arrive. There’s Mom, and nine kids.

TOKYO – Mrs. MacArthur is made an honorary Girl Scout during a gala scout during a gala scout jamboree attended by youngsters from many Allied nations.

TEXAS TOPS OKLAHOMA
DALLAS – In the wildest of the 41 games between the Longhorns and the Sooners, Bobby Layne’s sharpshooting passes turn the tide for Texas. The Longhorns win, 34-14.

YALE UPSETS COLUMBIA
NEW YORK – Completing 17 of 26 passes, and intercepting five Lion heaves, the Ellis outplay the favored Light Blue of Columbia at Baker Field. Two touchdowns and a field goal give Yale 17-7 victory.

NEW CRISIS IN GERMANY
GERMANY – Severe Summer drought brings new hardships to the hard-pressed Germans. Trains and factories are idle due to the electricity shortage, while the shortage of fuel forces many to scavenge for coal pumped up from the bottom of rivers.

YANKS TRAIN CHINA CADETS
TSINGTAO – Officers and men of the Chinese Naval Training Center stage a full dress parade, prior to gunnery training under American supervision on board small gun-boats. U.S. aid to the beleaguered Chinese!

DUTCH GIVE “IKE” SWORD
WASHINGTON – A jewel-encrusted gold sword, which took over a year to build at Utrecht and which represented the thanks of all Holland for “Ike’s” war efforts, is presented to Gen. Eisenhower by Ambassador Van Kleffens.

G.I.’s REACH AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY – Twenty-one ex-Servicemen, 12 wives and 12 children – the vanguard of more hundreds expected to make their homes “Down Under” – arrive on the “Marine Phoenix” and are greeted by Immigration Minister Calwell.

STEEPLECHASE THRILLS
NEW YORK – The United Hunts meet brings out the riders and mounts for a fever pitch of racing excitement, with spills keeping the huge crowd on edge at Belmont Park. Several are hurt during the meet.

CALIF. ROUTS WISCONSIN
MADISON – The hard hitting Golden Bears from California, visualizing Rose Bowl chances, claw the home team Badgers in a 48-7 rout that stuns the Wisconsin rooters. Celeri tosses two touchdown passes.

“BIBB” BRINGS PLANE SURVIVORS
BOSTON – The 69 survivors of the ill-fated “Bermuda Sky Queen,” saved from death by the Coast Guard cutter “Bibb” in mid-Atlantic, step onto dry land. Thousands jam the shore as the lucky survivors, with their rescuers, come ashore.

HOLLYWOOD “RED” PROBE BEGINS
WASHINGTON – Hearings begin before the House Un-American Activities Committee, on charges of communist infiltration in Hollywood. Chairman Thomas outlines the scope of the probe; while Eric Johnston, head of the M.P.A., denies the threat of communist influence and states that the Reds will never succeed in Hollywood.

THE PIGSKIN PARADE
ILLINOIS TOPS MINNESOTA
CHAMPAIGN – Passes turn the tide for the Illini against the unbeaten Gophers, with seven completed out of seven, and two of them for touchdowns. Final score: 40-13.

PENN STATE ROUTS SYRACUSE
STATE COLLEGE, PA. – An alert and powerful Penn State team overpowers a stubborn Syracuse eleven, 40-0, before a homecoming crowd of 20,000.

U.S.C. TROUNCES OREGON STATE
LOS ANGELES – The Trojans of Southern Cal. ride herd on the hapless Beavers of Oregon State, running up a lop-sided score, 48-6.

U.S.A. – The Navy reveals new methods of warfare, as the U.S. celebrates Navy Day. Film round-up shows our “first line of defense” girding to carry on historic function. Scenes of firing V-2 rockets from carrier Midway, and other thrills.

U.S. FILMS FIGHT REDS
WASHINGTON – An all star cast, including actors Robert Montgomery, Adolph Menjou, and Producer Sam Wood, take the stand to tell the House Un-American Activities Committee that Hollywood is fighting to keep communism out of motion pictures.

FOREST FIRES RAGE
MAINE – Kennebunkport and nearby Cape Porpoise are hard hit by raging woodland fires. Hundreds of homes burn, and thousands flee for their lives as the smoke and flames rage unchecked.

JET FLYING WING FLOWN
HAWTHORNE, CAL. – The AAF’s huge boomerang-shaped YB-49 flying wing bomber takes to the air on a spectacular maiden flight. The mammoth craft climbs quickly, smoke pouring from its eight jet engines.

NOVEL GLIDER TOW TRIED
DAYTON, OHIO – The Army Air Forces demonstrate a new method of towing gliders. A tow bar is used in place of the longer cable, with greater control and safety for flight in all kinds of weather.

KENTUCKY TOPS VANDERBILT
The hitherto unbeaten Commodores of Vanderbilt go down to defeat Kentucky Wildcats, 14-0. Several jarring plays are shown.

FIRE GUTS BAR HARBOR
MAINE – The famed resort is leveled, a charred ruins, as thousands of volunteer fire-fighters battle desperately to stem the blaze which swept Mt. Desert Island. Martial law is imposed; thousands are homeless and the death toll rises.

CITY HONORS WAR DEAD
NEW YORK – Half a million persons jam Central Park to pay tribute to New York’s first homecoming war dead. In solemn rites, over 6,000 fallen heroes are honored. Flowers are strewn on the water as the ship arrives from Europe.

30 DIE IN LONDON WRECK
LONDON – Splintered wreckage is grisly reminder of horror and death which came to commuter-jammed electric train during collision with express in fog. Thirty were killed and 150 injured.

COLUMBIA ENDS ARMY STREAK
NEW YORK – Columbia 21, Army 20! Biggest upset in football annals, the Light Blue Lions of Columbia overcome a 20-7 half-time deficit to end the Army’s 32 game streak. Aerials sink the Cadets.

MICHIGAN TOPS MINNESOTA
ANN ARBOR – Outrushed by the Gopher eleven, the Wolverines take advantage of the breaks to eke out a slim 13-6 victory and remain in the unbeaten column. But it’s a close call for Michigan.

U.S.C. ROUTS CALIFORNIA
BERKELEY – Southern Cal.’s vaunted Trojans and the unbeaten Golden Bears of California clash head-on in a battle of gridiron greats. An impressive 39-14 victory makes U.S.C. Rose Bowl hopefuls.

PENN DOWNS NAVY, 21-0
PHILADELPHIA – Maintaining its place among the football elect with a convincing demonstration of power, the Quakers score on long runs before 78,000 grid fans at Franklin Field.

GREECE – The extent of American aid for Greece is dramatically shown in these latest pictures from Athens. Supplies – locomotives, trucks, flour – are unloaded at the port of Piraeus, while American warships receive grateful visitors in the Philaron Gulf.

INDIA’S TREK OF DEATH
INDIA – The pitiful evacuation of Hindus from Pakistan, and of Moslems from Hindustan, continues with all its pathos. Thousands of Sikhs leave West Punjah, as India’s new-found liberty turns into hateful civil strife.

BRAZIL OUSTS REDS
RIO DE JANEIRO – Following the severance of diplomatic relations with the Soviet, thousands gather at the Catete Palace to cheer Pres. Dutra. The spontaneous demonstration blocks traffic for hours.

DUCK HUNTER PARADISE
TULE LAKE, CAL. 0 It’s hunting season near the huge wild-life refuge, where countless thousands of ducks and geese pay their autumnal visit enroute south. Hundreds quickly bag their quotas, but the sanctuary itself all is serene and safe.

BAMA TOPS GEORGIA
ATHENS – 48,000 football fans see Harry Gilmer’s brilliant first-period run spark an under-dog Alabama team to victory. There are other spectacular plays in this action-packed classic.

JAPAN – Clifford Evans and George Truman, daring light-plane pilots who are circling the globe in easy stages, arrive at Haneda Airport, after a hop from Shanghai. Later they flew to Alaska, shepherded by Flying Fortresses.

ATHENS – On the anniversary of the war with Italy, Greece, led by its royal family and Premier Sophoulis, pays tribute to its fallen heroes. Evzones join the colorful parade.

ANTI-RED POLE ESCAPES
LONDON – Stanislaw Mikolajezyk, leader of the anti-communist Polish Peasant Party, arrives in England after his dramatic escape from Warsaw. He speaks for the newsreel camera while his son looks on.

FESTIVAL IN INDIA
JAIPUR – Not all is strife in India! In the princely State of Jaipur, the Maharajah officiates over ancient ceremonies full of pomp and exotic splendor. Rich trappings in an Oriental setting.

WILL ROGERS HONORED
CLAREMORE, OKLA. – The Variety Club joined by Gov. Turner, Bob Hope and others, renders homage to the great American humorist on the anniversary of his death. A wreath is placed on his tomb.

PHILADELPHIA – A private aerial trapeze, set in the backyard, provides thrills for the amazing acrobats, and chills for local spectators.

U.S. WINS GOLF CUP
PORTLAND, ORE. – America successfully defends its right to the Ryder Cup by defeating the British team, 11 points to one. In a devastating rout, the U.S. team, led by Ben Hogan, golfs to victory.

WASHINGTON – State Secretary Marshall, appearing before a Joint House and Senate dollars to tide over the people of Italy, France and Austria. He says that nations wishing to obstruct our aid program wish to see Europe in chaos.

CALIFORNIA – Laden with vital food parcels for Europe’s starving, and picking up more cars as it rolls eastward, the “Friendship Train” picks up speed. Americans from coast to coast will have the opportunity to contribute their share as the train stops enroute.

NOTRE DAME-ARMY – The curtain comes down on a famed football rivalry at South Bend. The Fighting Irish trounce the Cadets, 27-7, before a huge throng. Expected to pass, Notre Dame batters Army with a savage ground offensive.
GEORGIA TECH-NAVY – In Baltimore, a surprise Navy team leads twice during a thrill-packed game, only to be beaten in the closing minutes by a Dixie pass. Final score: 16-14.
