TRUMAN OPENS CONGRESS
WASHINGTON – Opening the special session of Congress, Pres. Truman issues a blunt appeal for drastic action in combating inflation along with aid to Europe. He asks for a return of rationing and price controls and warns of disaster if we do not act.

STRIKE IN PARIS
FRANCE – When Communist agitated refuse collectors strike against the government, garbage piles up in the streets, and the sidewalks are slippery with trash.

FAMINE IN GERMANY
GERMANY – While the U.S. debates aid to Europe, some hungry Germans dig in garbage dumps to find enough scraps to keep alive. Pitiful scenes of the new food crisis.

THE PIGSKIN PARADE
ARMY AND PENN TIE
PHILADELPHIA – From the ashes of the Notre Dame debacle, the Cadets rise to play favored Pennsylvania to a 7-7 draw at Franklin Field. Army scores first in the battle before 78,000 fans.

MICHIGAN ROUTS WISCONSIN
MADISON – Rolling on unbeaten, the Wolverines ride like a steamroller over the underdog Badgers in a rain and snow-swept stadium. The Michigan powerhouse, with Chappuis heading the attack, wins 40-6.

ALABAMA TOPS GA. TECH
BIRMINGHAM – Alabama bounces Georgia Tech from the ranks of the unbeaten, 14-7 as Harry Gilmer turns in a sparkling passing performance. A huge throng sees the Crimson Tide engulf the favored Yellow Jackets.

FRIENDSHIP TRAIN REACHES SEABOARD
The Friendship train speeds through the middle west and east growing ever longer. New York gives it a rousing welcome with a parade of lighter loads of cars around the Statue of Liberty, and them proceeds to add many carloads of food for Europe’s hungry.

REDS FEAR OUR MOVIES, SAYS JOHNSTON
NEW YORK – Motion picture pioneers hear Eric Johnston as he calls U.S. motion pictures the last link with people behind the iron curtain. The fact that Reds fight our pictures, he offers as proof that they are free of communist influence.

FOOTNOTE ON FURS
NEW YORK – Furs take on a very special glamour when they are modeled by motion picture lovelies. Miss Paula Croset, featured in “The Exile” is chosen Miss Cinderella by the fur manufacturers. Pity Poor Cinderella.

PRINCETON BEATS YALE
PRINCETON – In one of the season’s most stunning upsets, the underdog Tigers claw the Eli Bulldogs to the tune of a 17-0 score. Two touchdowns and a field goal account for the score.

ROYAL WEDDING
ELIZABETH WEDS PHILIP AT ABBEY
LONDON – Pomp, pageantry and splendor unfold in austerity-ridden England, as thousands jam every vantage point in London to view the royal wedding. Here are the films a world has waited for – the nuptials of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, now a Prince. Colorful and spectacular scenes of the historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey – glimpses of the King and Queen and other royal notables – the triumphal procession through the streets back to Buckingham Palace – the rare and priceless wedding gifts, including the gift of Pres. Truman. The entire dramatic story unfolds for the world to see. On the balcony at the Palace, the happy young couple appears alone and with other members of the royal household, to receive the cheers of the multitude. The world joins Britain in wishing the two young people long life, prosperity and happiness.

PHILADELPHIA – Before 101,500 football fans, including Pres. Truman and other notables, the Army team defeats the Navy 21-0. Rip Rowan stars for the Cadets, scoring on a 92-yard touchdown romp and passing for another tally. A colorful and thrilling gridiron spectacle.

ST. NICK HAS PREVIEW
HOLLYWOOD – With Christmas just around the corner, film and radio big-wigs look their best in the Santa Claus Parade. There are “stars” in Santa’s eyes.

PHILADELPHIA – the City of Brotherly Love opens its doors, and hearts, to Saint Nick, who leads a spectacular parade of amazing floats in the Toyland Parade.

TRUMAN SEES FREEDOM TRAIN
WASHINGTON – With members of his Cabinet, Pres. Truman boards the Freedom Train at Union Station to see historic documents of our nation’s priceless heritage. Huge throngs get chilled awaiting their turn.

ROYAL HONEMOONERS POSE
ENGLAND – The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh – Princess Elizabeth and her consort – find seclusion and peace at Broadlands following the glitter and excitement of their wedding. Intimate scenes of famous newly-weds.

COMAND PERFORMANCE
LONDON – Motion picture stars from Hollywood, including Robert Montgomery and others, join lending British film notables at a charity “Command Performance.” Following the premiere the actors meet the royal family.

NEW YORK – A high-speed camera films the secret of the fly’s flight. Demonstrated at the American Museum and at the Sperry Co. plant, the amazing camera reveals the “gyroscope” which helps control the fly’s flight.

8 DIE IN SEATTLE CRASH
SEATTLE – The gutted, burned-out wreckage of a huge airliner is tragic aftermath of crash which brought death to eight. The plane overshot the runway, over an embankment and crashed into an auto.

THE NATION’S HEALTHIEST
CHICAGO – Sound bodies, clear minds and high morale are much in evidence as the healthiest boys and girls from 48 states convene for the Nat’l 4-H Club Congress. The ten top winners take a bow.

ANZIO WAR DEAD HONORED
ITALY – School children strew floral wreaths in humble gratitude on the graves of American soldiers killed at the Anzio beachhead. Solemn tribute to those who gave their lives in Italy’s liberation.

FELINE FUNSTERS FROLIC
BROOKLYN – Pedigreed cats, including Siamese, Angora… and some just plain “alley” varieties, strut their stuff in a furry feline frolic. Some of the sleek contestants have enviable war records.

FORT WORTH – With only twenty seconds left to play, Southern Methodist storms back to tie Texas Christian, 19-19, in a Southwest Conference thriller. Doak Walker of S.M.U. sparks his team to remain in the unbeaten ranks.

PHILADELPHIA & NEW YORK – Loaded with 8,000,000 pounds of food for France, the freighter “American Leader” embarks for LeHavre after taking on cargo at two ports. Pre-sailing ceremonies are attended by U.S. and French officials.

STRIKE GRIPS FRANCE
FRANCE – Plagued by waves of communist inspired strikes and facing serious shortages, France fights for survival. Newsreel films show strikers and police at the height of the disorders in Paris and Lyons.

THE “SNAKE” IN GERMANY
GERMANY – A queue here is called a “snake,” the reptile of cities. It’s bones are people, it’s scales the bundles they carry as they stand in line and wait for food and other necessities.

SPAIN VALLEY FLOODED
SPAIN – Flooded homes, ruined crops and homeless sufferers attest to violence of a sudden storm along the Segura River. The raging waters wash homes away and leave tons of mud on everything.

HIGH SCHOOL GRID THRILLS
PHILADELPHIA – Roman Catholic High School wins the city’s interscholastic football championship by defeating Frankford High, Public League titlists, 40-12, before 55,000 fans at Franklin Field.

NOTRE DAME ROUTS U.S.C.
LOS ANGELES – Touchdown romps of 92 and 76 yards feature Notre Dame’s spectacular 38-7 trouncing of Southern California. Huge crowd of 105,000 sees the defeat which gives the Irish their first perfect season in 17 years.

“BABE” CHEERS POLIO KIDS
NEW YORK – Babe Ruth plays “Santa” at a Christmas party for 50 youngsters, victims of the dread polio, at the Hotel Astor. The ever-lovable Bambino thrills the kiddies as he hands out toys, with a special message for children everywhere.

DUTCH CHEERS FOR SANTA
HOLLAND – In a traditional preview, the Feast of St. Nicholas brings out the happy youngsters, for merriment and excitement in the presence of the Queen, Princess Juliana, her children and husband, Prince Bernhard.

GLOBAL FLIERS BACK
TETERBORO, N.J. – 123 days after taking off on a round the world flight in two 100 h.p. fliver planes, George Truman and Clifford Evans, Jr., return home. They are met by their wives and a cheering throng. The two aerial “tourists” flew 25,000 miles.

COUNTERFEIT RING BROKEN
CHICAGO – Moving swiftly, Secret Service agents break up a bogus money ring and seize more than half a million in counterfeit money in a Chicago garage. The money and the printing press are confiscated at the Post Office.

WAR ORPHANS REACH U.S.
NEW YORK – Five war orphan children, adopted by motion picture and radio stars, arrive by plane from Europe. The arrival of the children launches a drive for the adoption of 75,000 more.

C.C.N.Y. CAGERS WIN
NEW YORK – Basketball at its best! Over 18,000 fans jam Madison Square Garden to see the C.C.N.Y. courtmen flash a last period spurt to edge out the Oregon State Beavers, 58-51.

LUJACK RECEIVES TROPHY
NEW YORK – Johnny Lujack, Notre Dame’s able quarterback who sparked the “Irish” to its unbeaten season, receives the Heisman Trophy, emblematic of football greatness, at a Downtown A.C. ceremony.

JAPAN – The Jap Emperor proves his popularity with his subjects during a visit to the famed city blasted by atomic power. Thousands cheer Hirohito, and crowd around hit auto, as he arrives to survey the damaged city.

GREEKS GET U.S. WARSHIPS
NORFOLK, VA. – During colorful transfer ceremonies at the Navy Base, Greek sailors man six small gunboats turned over to the Greek sailors man six small gunboats turned over to the Greek government by the U.S.

ADMIRAL NIMITZ GETS AWARD
WASHINGTON – For meritorious service in the Pacific, Adm. Chester Nimitz receives the D.S.M. from Pres. Truman. Adm. Denfield succeeds Nimitz as Chief of Naval Operations.

21 DIE IN AIR CRASH
MEMPHIS, TENN. – Another plane crash takes a high toll and strews wreckage for 200 yards along a hillside where the craft struck. Twenty-one Army personnel died in the crash.

LABRADOR SURVIVORS HOME
WASHINGTON – Four survivors of the disastrous ATC transport crash in Labrador arrive at Bolling Field on an ambulance plane. The injured were flown from the crash scene by helicopter, 23 others perished.

KIDDIES CHRISTMAS PARTY
NEW YORK – Cute youngsters from the N.Y. Foundling Hospital have an Xmas party, presided over by Cardinal Spellman. There are presents for all, and a boys’ choir singing Christmas carols.

BROWNS TOP GRID YANKEES
NEW YORK – 62,000 chilled football fans wait in vain to see Spec Sanders and Buddy Young score as the Cleveland Browns tally two touchdowns and retain the All-America Conference title. Motley provides the thrill play of the game, a 51-yard romp.
