FORT MONMOUTH, N.J. – Engineers of the Army Signal Corps, providing year round blizzards to test men and Artic equipment, demonstrate the newly-perfected technique in special chambers.

XMAS CHEER FROM MANY LANDS
WASHINGTON – Forty-five youngsters from as many lands, children of foreign diplomats stationed in Washington, take part in a special Christmas broadcast to the children of America.

WASHINGTON – Shortly after his return by plane from the ill-starred Foreign Ministers meeting in London, Secretary of State Marshall reports to the American people. He says that Russian hostility and opposition made progress impossible.

SEATTLE – The amazing Boeing XB-47 jet bomber, the “new look” in aviation, lifts its swept-back wings into the air and exceeds all expectations on its initial test flight.

JAP VAGRANTS ROUNDED UP
TOKYO – Ueno Railroad Station, once the pride of railway officials, now houses thousands of homeless vagrants in its dark tunnels. Police, from time to time, round up the occupants and cart them away.

FILM STAR IN FOOD APPEAL
HOLLYWOOD – A timely appeal for Americans to save wheat and meat so that others less fortunate may live is made by Jimmy Steward, popular star of motion pictures.

GOLDEN GLOVERS MIX IT

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The old argument over which is faster – basketball or hockey – is complicated with a new twist. Basketball on ice. It’s fast and furious, combining the thrilling features of both.

PHILADELPHIA – A new, low-priced, two-place helicopter, designed for passenger or cargo work, takes off for test flights. The craft hovers, or speeds along, with uncanny ability.

FRANCE – The French call them “curiosities,” everything from a trick click gun to an umbrella cigarette lighter. They’re shown in an amusing round-up of holiday gifts.

COLLIER TROPHY AWARDED
WASHINGTON – Pres. Truman presents the Collier Trophy for air safety to Lewis Rodert, aeronautics engineer, for his work in developing a heat method of protecting airplanes from ice.

DUTCH WOMAN MARKS 106TH
HOLLAND – Meet Opoe Herfst, 106 years young. The amazing Dutch lady celebrates another milestone in her life, surrounded by many generations of her large family.

GERMAN SCHOOL CRISIS
GERMANY – Getting into college is one hurdle. There are others: helping rebuild the dorms and classrooms for one. And there’s a housing problem, too.

TEST ALL-METAL GLIDER
TRENTON – A new assault-cargo glider, capable of carrying thirty-five men, tries its wings. The sturdy craft has tricycle landing gear, as well as other war-tested safety improvements.

NEW WHITE HOUSE PET
WASHINGTON – There’s a new feller in the White House, name of “Feller.” The 5-week old cocker puppy meets the newsreel cameramen upon his arrival from Missouri, gift of an old friend of Pres. Truman.

NEW YORK – Here’s real excitement on ice! Tempers flare during the game between the Providence Scarlets and the N.Y. Metropolitans. Then the fists fly, and even the referee gets into the act.

PRO BASKETBALL THRILLER
NEW YORK – In their first afternoon game, the N.Y. Knickerbockers draw an impressive crowd to Madison Square Garden, and chalk up a decisive triumph (70-59) over the Boston Celtics.

THE BLIZZARD OF 1947
The worst blizzard since 1888 roars in on New York and other East Coast cities, blanketing everything under a record-breaking 25.8-inch mantle of white. The death toll is low, but thousands are stranded when trains and autos stall, and food supplies run low in some areas. Thousands of workers and vehicles are pressed into service to dig New York out from under.

NEW NAVY JET TESTED
FARMINGDALE, L.I. – The Navy takes the wraps off its newest carrier-based jet fighter plane, the Grumman XF9F “Panther.” The sleek 600 m.p.h. craft has the cameramen dizzy during a spectacular test flight.

MISS TRUMAN MEETS PRESS WASHINGTON – Questions fly thick and fast when Margaret Truman meets the ladies of the press. She answers questions from everything to the “new look” to whether Dad would prefer a prima donna to grandchildren.

RIGGS DEFEATS DRAMER
NEW YORK – In his professional debut before 15,000 at Madison Square Garden, jack Kramer bows in defeat before the veteran Bobby Riggs. The final score is: 6-2, 10-8, 4-6, and 6-4.

CARDS WIN PRO GRID TITLE
CHICAGO – Two 70-yard scoring bolts by Elmer Angsman and two of 44 and 75 yards by Charlie Trippi provide the victory margin for the Chicago Cardinals in their NFL title clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.

TOKYO – Twenty-five of Japan’s top leaders who plunged their country into disastrous defeat are shown awaiting trial for their crimes. Former Premier Tojo, Shigemitsu, Minami, and others seem unperturbed about their impending fate.

MAHARAJAH’S JUBILEE
INDIA – Scenes of Oriental splendor and pomp unfold as the fabulously wealthy Maharajah of Jaipur holds a Silver Jubilee “Durbar,” replete with procession and ceremonials.

BARCELONA – A fashion note from Spain brings lovely dark-eyed models showing off the latest in Winter styles. The “New Look” has arrived, and on these Latin beauties the look is good.

MIAMI TRAIN WRECK
FLORIDA – A split rail, believed caused by a sudden cold snap, is blamed for the spectacular smash-up of a speeding express and a freight. Four crewmen were injured in the collision.

12 PUPS IN RECORD LITTER
VANCOUVER, B.C. – A baker’s dozen, six males and six females – Doberman Pinschers. The record litter takes a bow, as Mama seems unconcerned over her amazing feat. Lunch time goes on all the time.

FRENCH HONOR FILM EXEC.
NEW YORK – Joseph H. Seidelman, Vice Pres. Of Universal-International in charge of foreign operations, is made a Chevalier in the Legion of Honor for his outstanding services to the French government.

MIDGET CAR FOR SHOPPERS
LOS ANGELES – Doubly handy for shoppers is a novel midget auto, soon to be produced in mass. There’s lots of room for packages under the hood, and the price is low. And 45 miles to the gallon.
