IKE & ADENAUER MEET AT GETTYSBURG:
Ike welcomes West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer to Eisenhower Farms for an informal no-protocol meeting at which conversation ranges form fine beef cattle to problems of Soviet policy and world disarmament.

FORMOSA RIOTING:
In the aftermath, U.S. officials survey damages to the Embassy and U.S. Information Agency, as police restore order in Taipei.

ROYAL VISIT:
Pomp and pageantry in Stockholm welcomes Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard of Holland, as they arrive to visit Sweden’s King Gustav.

PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED:
In Washington, D.C., the President honors the “Handicapped Man of the Year.” Hugo Deffner, of Oklahoma City, and high school essay contest winners.

FLOATING SAUCER:
A novel craft for fishermen, saucer-shaped, powered by twin outboards, debuts on the Milwaukee River, and makes quite a splash with local anglers.

DALLAS FLOODS:
Over five thousand in Dallas are forced from their homes by floods following torrential rains, as weather continues to batter the Southwest.

DOG SHOW:
A British import, Ch. Fircot L’ Ballerine, miniature poodle, wins best of show honors at the Morris & Essex Kennel Club competition in New Jersey – America’s most fashionable dog show.

A series of dazzling performances sets records toppling in top track and field meet. Among the highlights, Milt Campbell in the 120 yd. hurdles and Merv Lincoln’s sensational mile victory.

NEW ATOM TESTS:
NEVADA – As dawn breaks over Las Vegas, the 1957 atomic test series begins. The familiar “mushroom cloud” rises up as new warnings are heard telling of the dangers of Strontium 90 fallout endangering the safety of the world’s populace. But equally determined are voices urge this country to remain strong to remain free.

WORLD NEWS IN BRIEF:
SQUARE-RIGGER – Like a breath out of the past, a square-rigged Norwegian sailing ship sails into New York harbor with 42 teenage maritime cadets on board.

EXPECTANT STORKS – Here’s a neat switch storks awaiting the stork! The Austrian town of Rust is happy at the return of the fabulous birds nesting on top of chimneys.

FIRE DEMONSTRATION – The Air Force plays host to the Fire Chief’s Field Conference at Westhampton L.I., with a spectacular demonstration of combating airplane fires.

EARTH SATELLITE – At Baltimore, first films of the Vanguard rocket and the artificial satellite it will carry in three-stages into outer space.

FISH STORY – Amazing films of a rare life-form, the Actinia (half plant, half animals) which protect tiny coral fish and in return is fed by the little fish.

DAYDREAMS IN DESIGN:
NEW YORK – Inspired by a book about dreams, leading designers show unusual hats during a Millinary Institute showing. Hidden longings come to life in the hats Milady will wear.

SPORTS:
PAL BOXING – In New York, the Police Athletic League boxing finals brings plenty of slam-bang action by youthful amateurs. Fistic fireworks for the fans as the young “Pals” let fly.

BRITISH H-BOMB:
Britain explodes its first H-bomb in the Pacific, staking a claim as a ranking power in the nuclear age, as pressures to impose a ban on future atomic testing mount.

ALGERIA MASSACRE:
Algerian Nationalists slay 300 – the male inhabitants of a small Muslim village – in the bloodiest incident yet of the 31 month terrorist campaign for independence from France.

ISRAEL AIDS ARABS:
Israel aids its own Arab population, with new harvesting machinery for tribesmen-farmers in the Negev desert.

IKE’S HELICOPTERS:
Ike’s 2 new helicopters practice landings on the White House lawn, in preparation for their mission of ferrying the President to National Airport.

FISH STORY:
In Maine, alewives running upstream to spawn face life-and-death decision at a fork in the river. To the left, safety – to the right, the cannery!

MODEL AIR SHOW:
In New York, model-makers turn out en masse to show off tiny speedsters and radio-controlled craft in a real aerial circus.

SPORTS

GOLF:
At New Rochelle’s Wykagyl Club, old pro Sam Snead finishes with a sensational 67 to take the Palm Beach tourney. It’s the fifth Wykagyl win for the popular golfer.

TRACK:
At Compton Calif., plenty of Track & Field thrills, and a big upset when Willie White noses out Bobby Morrow in the “100.” Bob Gutowski wins the pole vault, while Australia’s Merv Lincoln romps home to victory in the Mile.

“JUNE WEEK” FOR CADETS, MIDDIES:
Graduation time at West Point and Annapolis. At both service academies, traditional dress parades in salute of the graduating classes are marked by brilliant precision. June Week observances culminate with commencement exercises, and an exultant ‘hats off’.

TRUMAN A GRAND-DAD:
A beaming Harry S. Truman arrives at a New York hospital to greet daughter Margaret, son-in-law Clifton Daniel, and his first grandson, only a day old. A proud and happy day for the ex-President.

ESTHER WILLIAMS IN ROME:
Movie star Esther Williams arrives in Rome accompanied by her little daughter Susy, to begin a new film “The Islander” co-starring Jeff Chandler and Rosanna Podesta.

CONEY ISLAND AQUARIUM:
New York City’s new Aquarium, on the boardwalk at Coney Island, is opened as a penguin bites through the ribbon across the door of the showplace dedicated to science and sight-seeing.

SANTA’S SUMMER HOME:
At Santa Cruz, Cal., Santa Claus plays host to youngsters who visit his 140 acre village – a wonderland complete with lollypop tree, train ride and a North Pole made of Candy Ice.

FRENCH AIR SHOW:
The United States and Russia join in Western Europe’s greatest air show since World War II. France asserts a strong claim to parity as a major air power with new jets, in a spectacular display over Paris.

CRAPELLO WINS EQSOM DERBY:
In the 178th running of England’s classic Derby Stakes, favored Crepello wins in the fastest time since 1936, before a crowd of 300,000 that includes the Queen. A turf thriller, with a hard, close contest right down to the wire.

BREAK GROUND FOR FEATHER RIVER DAM:
CALIFORNIA – The Feather River and Oroville share the spotlight as Gov. Goodwin Knight breaks ground for a new dam which will tame the Feather River, which two years ago went on a costly rampage.

IKE SEES AIR MIGHT:
President Eisenhower and top Cabinet members board the super-carrier Saratoga off the Florida coast for a spectacular two-day series of naval air power exercises that culminates with the first transcontinental carrier-to-carrier nonstop flight.

SYMPHONY OF SUMMER in Holland, where warm weather brings a whirl of activity to a bird sanctuary. Highlights include the birth of three downy chicks to a proud gull hen.

GIRAFFE HOUSE:
The Columbus Zoo solves a housing problem, with a fine new structure boasting entrances two doors high and half a door wide, plus an interior balcony for keepers.

SAUD IN JORDAN:
Arabia’s King Saud pays another visit to Hussein of Jordan, as realignment of power and shifting of tensions continues in the Middle East.

FASHION PARADE in Paris, focuses attention on the optics, with a display of new and chic eyeglasses, nowadays very much the thing for the glamour-puss who wants to get in the swing.

SPORTS

ROYAL ENTRY WINS AT EPSOM:
The Derby Oaks, one of England’s turf classics, is won by Carrozza, Queen Elizabeth’s entry, in a photo-finish thriller.

ACTIVE OCTOGENERIAN:
Felix Suarez of Bilbao becomes the pride of Spain with a heroic bicycle ride up a steep two mile grade just to show he can still do it at age 82.

LIVERMORE RODEO:
One of the West’s most historic rodeos – first held over a century ago in the historic California town – maintains its wild and woolly aspects, with a rough and tumble time for hapless riders.

18 NATION NAVAL REVIEW:
114 men-of-war from thirteen nations take part in an international naval review, the first in the hemisphere in 50 years, honoring the 350th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. The 14-mile column of ships off Norfolk, Va., comprises an awesome display of modern seapower.

MAYFLOWER II REACHES NEW WORLD:
The Mayflower II completes her voyage from England, reaching Plymouth in 14 days less than her historic predecessor, to be greeted by crowds of friendly natives, and ceremonies of welcome on the site of the original Pilgrims’ landing.

HAWK MISSILE:
The newest air defense missile in the Army’s arsenal, the Hawk, is demonstrated. It will supplement the Nike in guarding U.S. cities.

FRENCH PRIME MINISTER:
Following another French governmental crisis, 42 year old Bourges-Manoury becomes the 32nd Prime Minister since World War II.

POLISH TRADE FAIR:
At Poznan, scene of the workers’ riots which touched off Poland’s bid for a loosening of Russia’s yoke, 30 nations including the U.S. take part in a trade and industry exposition.

HOUSE OF TOMORROW is opened to the public at Disneyland in California. All plastic, it boasts dozens of new features including a kitchen with atomically treated food and ultrasonically washed dishes.

WAR CANOE RACE:
Indians from the coastal tribes of Washington and British Columbia gather at the Lummi Reservation near Bellingham for a tribal water carnival, highlighted by a war canoe race, in which 11 man crew propel the sleek craft at a breathtaking clip.

San Jose, Cal. – The sportsmen’s Chef Banquet features an astounding menu of exotic delicacies bagged by members in all parts of the world, ranging from octopus canapé to wild boar au rotisserie.

TROOPING THE COLORS:
Traditional martial pageantry highlights the celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s thirty-first birthday. In full dress uniform as Honorary Commander, Her Majesty reviews the Household Guards, at their most impressive, from horseback.

ROSE FESTIVAL:
Portland’s 49th annual Rose Festival is climaxed by a mammoth parade which is witnessed by 40,000 as the procession of lavish floats winds through the streets of the City of Roses.

U.S. OPEN GOLF:
Dick Mayer, LaJolla, Cal., pro, wins the U.S. Open Golf Championship at Toledo, in play-offs against 2-time winner Cary Middlecoff. Middlecoff wilts badly as his opponent holes out seven up to win handily.

MID-EAST POWER SHIFT:
A major re-alignment of forces in the critical mid-East continues, with a widening of the rift between Egypt and Jordan, and the strengthening of bonds between Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Meetings between national leaders and the withdrawal of Jordan’s Ambassador from Cairo bespeak the course of events.

BELMONT STAKES:
Records topple in the Belmont Stakes, as Gallant Man sweeps to an 8-length victory over a fast field, with a spectacular drive from an 8-length trailing position, to set a new record for the distance!

POPE VAULT RECORD:
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Bob Gutowski, 150-pound six-footer, eclipses the world’s mark for the pole vault in the Nat’l Collegiate track meet, with a jump of 15 ft. 9 ? inches. Another world mark falls when Don Bowden wins the Half-Mile in 1:47.2.

JAPAN PREMIER GOLFS WITH IKE:
Japan’s Premier Kishi opens a 4-day visit of state by joining President Eisenhower on the links for a friendly golf match. Both are ardent amateurs. Later, Kishi pledged that Japan would continue to resist communism.

POPE GREETS CONGRESS OF EUROPE:
Many of Europe’s leading statesmen are among the 1,000 members of the Congress of Europe whose Rome meeting is climaxed by a Papal audience.

50 YEARS OF AVIATION are summed up in a spectacular Dutch air show ranging from a primitive 1909 monoplane to supersonic jets.

ALPINE FLOODS devastate an industrial region of France, inundating some of France’s principal aluminum plants.

DUTCH YACHT:
Holland’s sailing association presents Princess Beatrix with a 55-foot yacht on her birthday.

RESORT FASHIONS, styled in synthetic fiber fabrics by DeGivenchy, are showcased, in New York. Modes for every mood, from casual attire to formal evening wear.

SPORTS:

NO-FEET MARATHON – An intrepid Austrian starts a 200 mile marathon, walking on his hands, a feat attempted in the cause of charity by an artist with muscle enough to make his way with his own two hands.

INTERNATIONAL TENNIS championships in Holland, with Chile’s Ayala pitted against Steward of the U.S. in the men’s finals. Ayala wins the international cup in a hard-fought court battle.

NEW CANADIAN GOVERNMENT:
In Canada, the reins of government change hands after 22 years. At Government House in Ottawa. Prime Minister St. Laurent and his Liberal Cabinet submit their resignations, and the new Prime Minister, Conservative John Diefenbaker is sworn in by Governor General Massey.

U.N. TO RE-ARM IN KOREA:
At Panmunjom, U.N. and Communist truce teams face again across historic conference tables, and the announcement is made that in retaliation for continued Red Truce violations, U.N. forces will receive new and modern arms – start with jets capable of carrying nuclear payloads.

MARINE COMMANDOS in maneuvers off Puerto Rico, take off from the deck of a submarine in new-model, quick-inflating rubber boats.

BACK YARD PLANE CRASH:
A twin motor transport crashes in a Maryland back yard, only 15 feet from a bungalow. Owner John Anderson had to race for his life to escape the plummeting craft.

ALPINE ROUND-UP:
Tyrolian Shepherds gather their flocks for a trek northwards across the Alps, following the cool weather – a scene as old as time in a land of timeless scenic grandeur.

KIDS FISHING:
Kids by the thousands in a giant Seattle dock fishing derby. Anything that swims or wiggles counts toward a prize and the fledgling fishermen make quite a dent in the fish population.

JAPAN PREMIER AT BALL GAME:
At Yankee Stadium, Japan’s Premier Kishi receives a Yankee cap from Casey Stengel, and throws out the first ball to start the game with White Sox. He’s and ardent baseball fan, like most of his countrymen.

A.A.U. TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS:
At Dayton, Ohio, star-studded field of competitors in the 69th A.A.U. Track and Field Championships. Highlights include Merv Lincoln’s victory in the mile, and Bob Richards' new pole vault record.
