4-MASTER FULL-RIGGER WELCOMED BY SEATTLE:
Japan’s training ship Nippon Maru, a 300 foot, 4-mastered full-rigged bark completes a trans-Pacific training cruise for Merchant Marine cadets, arriving to set the stage for Seattle’s Seafair celebration, a wind-wafted vestige of bygone days of sail.

NASSER BLASTS U.S.:
Egypt’s President Nasser denounces the United States to an audience of 250,000 as having plotted the destruction of Egypt. At a naval display, a Russian-built submarine now serving Egypt is showcased.

ATOMS FOR PEACE:
In ceremonies in the White House Rose Garden, President Eisenhower ratifies U.S. membership in the first international agency devoted to peaceful development of atomic energy.

4-DAY MARCH:
All Holland is on the march, in a traditional 4-day marathon, joined by Israelis, West German troops, and a British military band!

ANDERSON SWORN IN:
A major Cabinet post changes hands as Robert D. Anderson is sworn in as Secretary of the Treasury, receiving his scroll of office from Ike, with his predecessor, Secretary Humphrey, looking on.

GRAND PRIX:
Europe’s top racing drivers scorch through the ancient French city of Caen in the Grand Prix, won by France’s Grand Champion M. Behra.

AUTO THRILL SHOW:
The Kochman Thrill Show stages a staggering display of driving skill in Tampa that tests their mechanical mounts’ ruggedness and durability to the utmost.

AQUA FOLLIES:
Al Sheehan’s Aqua Follies thrill Seattle with a grand show ranging from water ballet to the fine form of Olympic diving champ Patty McCormack, to the incredible antics of the zaniest diving clowns ever to fall off a board.

SOUTH POLE AIR LIFT:
Supplies are parachuted to the United States scientific team wintering at the South Pole. The giant cargo haulers drop their precious cargo with pin-point accuracy.

GINA & BABY:
At a swank Rome hospital, a blessed event makes headline news. Italian movie queen Gina Lollobrigida proudly shows husband Dr. Mirko Skofie their first born, a son.

SPECTACULAR SEAFAIR PARADE:
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – Despite a drizzle, hundreds of thousands line the route of the city’s “Grande Parade,” a 3-hour-long spectacle of floats, pretty girls and marching units. Honorary Grand Marshals are Bing Crosby and Phil Harris.

LAST RITES FOR ARCHBISHOP:
ATHENS, GREECE – Archbishop Dorotheos, able and beloved leader of the Greek Church, who died in Sweden following an operation, is mourned by millions.

MERCHANT MARINE GRADUATION:
KING POINT, L.I. – Climax to two-day commencement exercises, 156 smartly uniformed Cadets from all parts of the U.S. receive their licenses as officers in the Merchant Marine.

BABIES ON PARADE:
CALIFORNIA – A baby show in Inglewood and a Diaper Derby with crowns for “Master and Miss U.S.A.” and prizes for the tots crawling across the finish line first.

WORLD OF SPORTS:
SWIM MEET – At Philadelphia, records fall during the Men’s A.A.U. Swimming Championships, and breathtaking performances from the high platform mark the diving.

CANADIAN FOOTBALL – Canadian football comes to Portland, marking a big first for the Pacific Northwest. Faster than American football, the game (won by the Edmonton Eskimos) sees the Vancouver Lions trounced 29-8.

VOTERS URGED TO REGISTER:
NEW YORK – Cornelia Otis Skinner, well-known stage star, urges all eligible voters to register now – under the new “P.P.R.” (permanent registration plan.)

SCOUT JUBILEE JAMBOREE:
ENGLAND – A “city of tents” is the common ground between Boy Scouts of every race and creed, and from all over the world, gathered for 12 days of world fellowship of youth.

At his weekly press conference in Washington, D.C., President Eisenhower discusses his air inspection plan as offering the best hope for an agreement on world arms reduction.

CRASH BARRIER:
Mitchell Air Base in New York tests a new runway crash barrier, capable of arresting jets taxiing at 150 mph.

AIR BASE:
The U.S. Air Force’s Zaragoza air base in Spain begins operation with the arrival of a flight of Stratojets from England.

IKE AT HOSPITAL:
Ike visits the First Lady at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, where Mrs. Eisenhower is recuperating from surgery.

FASHION INTERLUDE IN ROME:
American fashions inspired by the new film “Interlude” go to Rome, where 4 models see the sights and offer some stunning views themselves, against the backdrop of Rome’s ancient grandeur.

WORLD OF SPORTS

SWIMMING RECORD:
The highlight of Holland’s two-day national swimming championships is a new world’s record set in the Women’s 200 Meter Breast Stroke by 15 year old Ada den Haan.

CHALLENGER TRAINS:
Olympic heavyweight champion Pete Rademacher trains in Seattle for his first pro bout, against pro champion Floyd Patterson.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER in the off-beat sports event of the year at Ionia, Michigan – the Ostrich Derby! They better the world’s (horse) trotting record in a slightly incredible track outing.

GREEK RULERS – To Nato headquarters in France come Queen Frederica and King Paul of Greece, guests of General Lauris Norstad.

DOG HERO – 1957’s Dog Hero, a collie named “Blaze,” is feted in Chicago for rescuing three-year old mistress from enraged sow.

RELIGIOUS RITES – In India, Muslims observe the Day of Muharrum, commemorating martyrs of early holy wars. Ritual ends on note of fanaticism and flagellation.

BIG FEET – San Francisco’s Presidio solves problem of what to do with soldier whose feet are too big for Army shoes by giving him desk duty.

“MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES”:

As West German elections draw near, Chancellor Konrad Adenauer stages an American-style whistle-stop tour, spear-heading his party’s campaign with an amazing show of stamina at the age of 81.

ACCURATE TO INCHES is a new British guided missile, designed for anti-tank warfare. It’s flown through a cloth target, barely brushing the edges at rocket speed.

TOWN CRIERS, gathered from all over England and Wales, exercise their larynxes and their ancient craft, competing for the national championships. Oyez!

Trotting richest stake is held in the Midwest for the first time. In Illinois, a field of 21 3-year olds is narrowed to a final heat of two, Hickory Smoke and Hoot Song fighting it out for the crown.

SALMON DERBY:

At Cypress Gardens, Florida, the world’s greatest woman water skier tunes up for the forthcoming world’s championships. Pretty Willa McGuire in a show of her aqua-specialties.
